Best Recent Sports Hype Videos

Nick DimengoFeb 28, 2015

You know what are awesome? Hype videos.

I don't care if they're done by a team to get fans and players stoked for an upcoming season or game, or if some guy who lives in his mom's basement put it together, because the good ones always stand out and make their way around the Interwebs.

Like mini films, a great hype video will hit every single one of your emotions—and the following videos succeed in doing just that, as they're the best hype videos online.

Minnesota Timberwolves Trolling Kevin Love

1 of 14

I know that this isn't the type of hype video that you might have been expecting to get this list started, but it is just too good to keep off of it.

Following a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers this offseason from the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kevin Love all but lost any, well, love from Wolves fans, with them waving goodbye without thinking twice about it.

But when the Cavs visited Minnesota in January, marking Love's first return to the arena since being dealt, the team didn't make one mention in the hype video for fans, instead focusing on another former T-Wolves player, Mike Miller, who is averaging just under 15 minutes and 2.3 points per game for Cleveland.

Talk about a low blow.

Colorado Avalanche 2014-15 Video

2 of 14

The TV show Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows to watch these days, so kudos to the NHL's Colorado Avalanche for doing their part to create buzz about their 2014-15 season by using the show's intro in this hype video.

Showing respect for their opponents in the Western Conference's Central Division, the Avs prepare all of the teams in the league for the fact that a major snowstorm is coming in the form of a giant avalanche. It's too bad the team hasn't responded as well as this video thought they would.

Oregon Ducks Rose Bowl Video

3 of 14

With last year's Heisman Trophy winner, Marcus Mariota, and a slew of other potential NFL players, the Oregon Ducks proved to be one of the best teams in the country in 2014.

And while their bid to win the national title fell short when they played the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff Final, they still had a hype video that made them feel like champs before their national semifinal game in the Rose Bowl against Florida State.

This thing is thrilling, so it's no wonder the Ducks went out and dominated the Seminoles after watching it.

Golden State Warriors 2014-15 Video

4 of 14

Maybe I'm just drinking the Kool-Aid on the Golden State Warriors this season, but with the second-best record in the NBA and the best backcourt in the league, it's hard not to.

Even without all of that, though, the Dubs' hype video that they played on opening night to tip off their 2014-15 campaign is pretty rad, mixing in some cool elements like the comic book-like characters that make it unique.

Cutting all of the players' faces together toward the end shows unity, which has clearly worked for them so far this season.

Ohio State Buckeyes-Michigan Wolverines Rivalry

5 of 14

While the Ohio State Buckeyes-Michigan Wolverines rivalry has lacked national intrigue since the No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup in 2006, that doesn't diminish the power that this game has.

Known as "The Game," these two teams and their fans don't need any other reason to dislike each other, with friends, families and relationships tarnished because of this game.

So when Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer tweeted out this hype video to generate excitement amongst OSU fans, it officially kicked off Michigan Week.

United States Men's National Soccer Team

6 of 14

The entire country was bound together thanks to the performance of the United States men's national soccer team last summer during the World Cup.

And while there isn't anything necessary for fans to get excited for "The Beautiful Game," the hype videos that made their rounds on the Internet certainly got the blood flowing a little more in anticipation.

In my opinion, this one was tops, with the video capturing everything it means to be a member of Sam's Army, recognizing the past and relishing the future.

Georgia Bulldogs: "We Are One"

7 of 14

Prior to last year's matchup against the Auburn Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs released a hype video that is one of the best I've ever seen.

With the theme being "We Are One," the Dawgs and their fans were able to get the blood flowing with this video before taking on—and eventually taking down—the Tigers.

Seriously, check your pulse if this thing doesn't make you want to go put a helmet on and start hitting some people.

Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Video

8 of 14

Although the superfight between legendary boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao wasn't officially announced until last week—setting the sports world on fire—that didn't stop some fans from creating a few hype videos in anticipation of what is set to be the biggest fight anyone has seen in the ring in a long time.

And this one is one of my favorites, going in-depth on what makes these two fighters so great and getting me even more pumped for May 2.

Rest assured that as the fight gets closer, we'll be seeing plenty more of these.

Duke Blue Devils-North Carolina Tar Heels Rivalry

9 of 14

Arguably the biggest college basketball rivalry on the men's side, any time the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils get together, it's going to provide some serious theater.

And as was the case before last week's insane game, a hype video was floating around to remind everyone just how bitter these two teams are toward each other.

Seeing how the game went into overtime and lived up to the hype, I'd say this teaser promoted the actual game as well as any on this list.

Kansas City Royals 2014 World Series Video

10 of 14

After making it to the World Series for the first time in 29 years last season, the Kansas City Royals made sure to let their fans know just how momentous of an occasion it really was.

With many fans of the team either too young to remember or not even being born that last time the Royals were in the Fall Classic, this hype video for their matchup against the San Francisco Giants surely gave them a few goosebumps.

Unfortunately, the team didn't win it all, but fans still banded together for the moment with an outpouring of support.

2014 College Football Pump-Up

11 of 14

Sure, all of these other videos are unique in their own way, but this college football pump-up hype video compilation is just insane.

No joke, between the music and the scenes from various teams around the country, if you love college football, this thing probably made you clear your schedule each Saturday so not to miss any part of the action.

And with the College Football Playoff living up to the hype with great games, this video was a perfect appetizer to what was to come.

New England Patriots

12 of 14

Forget about the whole DeflateGate controversy for a second and just watch this classic, inspiring hype video that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady put together before this year's Super Bowl.

Posting this video to his personal Facebook page a week before his team took on—and defeated—the Seattle Seahawks, Brady had Pats Nation on the edge of their seats with this.

Using a Friday Night Lights theme with a narration by Billy Bob Thornton's Gary Gaines character, I'm sure a few New England fans lost some sleep in anticipation of the big game for the week leading up to kickoff.

Duke Blue Devils Men's Hoops

13 of 14

Sorry to all of you Duke haters out there, because the men's hoops team finds itself on this list twice thanks to its epic hype video before the 2014-15 season.

Seriously, whoever is doing the team's video production deserves some sort of award, because these things are on point with the drama.

With a storied history that includes four national titles and a coach who has won more games than any other men's college basketball coach, I don't know what recruit could say no to committing to Duke after watching this.

LeBron James Is Coming Home

14 of 14

There hasn't been any bigger news in sports over the past year than the return of the king himself, LeBron James, coming home to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And although he made Decision 2.0 in July, that didn't stop the Cleveland faithful from getting amped up by imagining what it was going to look like once he stepped back onto the court at Quicken Loans Arena, bringing his MVP act to the Cavs.

As if Ohioans needed another reason to get hyped, this video to the song "I'm Coming Home" provided it.
