Aaron Hernandez's Rental Car Had Shell Casings Matching Those at Murder Scene
During the murder trial for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, a police officer testified that shell casings found in Hernandez's rental car were fired from the same weapon as those at the scene where Odin Lloyd was murdered.
According to The Associated Press (via ESPNBoston.com), Sgt. Stephen Walsh of the Massachusetts State Police testified that a total of six shell casings all came from the same gun:
"Five shell casings were found near where Odin Lloyd was shot to death June 17, 2013, in an industrial park not far from the Hernandez home in North Attleborough. An employee of a rental car business has previously testified that she found one shell casing under the driver's seat of Hernandez's rented Nissan Altima, which he returned the day of the killing.
Police later found that shell casing in a trash bin at the business.

The AP report also notes that Hernandez's defense attorneys "went after Walsh for not looking more thoroughly for ways to match the bullets" and that the murder weapon is still missing.
Per Jay Hart of Yahoo Sports, the prosecution appears to be moving closer to finding the missing murder weapon based on testimony from two of Hernandez's former housekeepers.
Walsh's testimony, per the AP, claims all six casings were "consistent with having been fired from a Glock."
Hernandez's trial began on January 29 and, with the exception of some weather-related delays, has been progressing daily over the past month. He was charged in the 2013 shooting death of Lloyd and also faces separate murder charges from a 2012 incident involving two other killings that has yet to reach trial.
