Williams Reportedly Signs With Steelers

Friday, March 13

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Williams will be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers after visiting the team today.

Williams to Visit Steelers

Wednesday, March 11

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Williams was visiting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.

Williams will turn 32 in April, and for all the fanfare he's garnered since being a first-round pick in 2006, he's had just two 1,000-yard rushing seasons. That's partly due to the timeshare situation with Jonathan Stewart in Carolina, but nagging injuries have also contributed.

ESPN's Andrew Brandt weighed in on Williams' exit from Carolina:

After he was released, Williams didn't convey any hard feelings about the way he was let go:

What makes Williams marketable is the fact that he has eclipsed 200 carries in a single season only three times. Despite his advanced age, Williams doesn't have the wear and tear one might expect.

A career average of 4.8 yards per carry also shows that Williams is extremely productive when he's healthy and in a feature role. If Williams acts as a veteran mentor, a role in which he'd excel, his future teammates might improve as well.

The situation in Carolina never allowed Williams to blossom into a star for more than a couple of years. Perhaps a new environment will spark a career renaissance and see Williams enjoy another productive season or two in the NFL.
