Di Maria Fit to Face Arsenal
Friday, May 15
Manchester United's official Twitter feed reported that Di Maria is fit to face Arsenal, according to manager Louis van Gaal.
On May 9, the club revealed Di Maria picked up a knock ahead of the team's clash with Crystal Palace, and he was reportedly on crutches on May 8, according to Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News.
This isn't the first time the Argentina international has faced a spell on the sidelines this season, as he suffered a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign, per Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The injury hasn't helped his form, and after a promising start to his Premier League career, he has struggled to consistently perform, per ESPN FC's Andy Mitten:
When healthy and in form, he remains one of the league's most uniquely gifted athletes. Blending pace, technique and creativity, he's one of United's top options out wide but can also shift inside and play behind the striker.
The Red Devils don't have a natural replacement with similar abilities sitting on the bench, with Belgian youngster Adnan Januzaj the closest thing to the proficient Argentinian. However, Januzaj has struggled with form himself all season, failing to build on his great campaign in 2013-14.
Van Gaal must hope Di Maria returns to the pitch as soon as possible, as United face a real battle to secure a finish inside the top four of the Premier League.
