NFL Combine 2015: Full Monday Schedule, TV Info and Top Prospects to Watch

Steven CookFeb 22, 2015

The 2015 NFL Scouting Combine will see its inevitable ending Monday afternoon but not before the nation's best defensive backs put their talents on display to cap off a memorable weekend in Indianapolis.

The offensive workouts have come and gone, and perhaps the deepest unit in the class has been performing Sunday with the defensive linemen and linebackers doing battle. But before scouts and prospects can put a rightful bow on the predraft season's biggest event, a star-studded group of secondary standouts will get its opportunity under the spotlight.

While most of the biggest events have already taken place, Lucas Oil Stadium will see one more influx of potential first-round picks and future NFL household names put their talents on display. With that in mind, let's break down all of the information you need to know.

Top Prospects to Watch

Trae Waynes, DB, Michigan State

Michigan State's Trae Waynes has a chance to move closer to solidifying his status as the top cornerback in a wide-open class Monday at the combine.

The physical cover corner comes in at 6'0" and 186 pounds, and he has been topping many draft boards at his position with good reason. His lengthiness allows him to track down balls that smaller corners can't get to while maintaining a strong presence in front of his wideout.

He'll be taking the field around 11 a.m. ET, per Michigan State football:

Waynes' stature and strengths make him an enticing prospect who could generate enough momentum to be the first cornerback taken, but just where will that be? Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com sees a lot in him, while the jury is still out for Bleacher Report's Matt Miller:

Waynes' style of play doesn't fit every team in the league, but the same can be said of many specialists at their position. If a bump-and-run expert with lankiness and a physical style of play such as Waynes landed in the right location where he's counted on for man coverage, the sky would be the limit.

It certainly wouldn't hurt his draft stock for Waynes to put up some eye-popping numbers Monday, but he has enough talent alone in man coverage to stand out in the drills. How he performs will go a long way toward deciding if he's a top-10 guy or a late first-rounder.

Landon Collins, S, Alabama

While Waynes' status as the top cornerback is way up in the air, Alabama safety Landon Collins doesn't have too much competition for the best safety moniker. But making a safety an early first-round pick demands him to be a game-changer.

Is Collins? He won't really be able to prove himself until he lands in the league, but Monday could be a sign of the future.

The former Crimson Tide safety put his talents on display on the biggest stage in college football, often blowing up wide receivers with jarring hits and ripping down interceptions with his strong hands. What stands out more than anything is his daunting physical nature—as Bleacher Report's Matt Bowen shared, he's quite huge for a safety:

Collins thrived at the safety spot in the collegiate ranks, but his size and on-field traits may end up forcing a position switch at the next level. Bleacher Report's Scott Carasik seems to believe so:

No matter what Collins measures out as, though, what position he lands at will have everything to do with the abilities he shows to scouts—and eventually his future team. His size and playing style left him susceptible to deep balls occasionally against Alabama's best opponents, and that problem could manifest itself at the next level.

If he can prove himself as an established safety at the next level, Collins' style of play could make him a game-changer for many years to come. He should be anyway, whether it's at linebacker or in the secondary.

Ronald Darby, CB, Florida State

If you're looking for a (somewhat) under-the-radar cornerback to take the combine by storm Monday, Florida State's Ronald Darby could be that guy.

The former Seminole's best trait has always been his top-notch speed, but he's reached another level with his elite track-down ability and strong instincts leading his play. He shut down his half of the perimeter so well in his final collegiate season that teams often avoided him altogether.

When it comes to running in straight line, though, few are better than Darby, and he hopes to put that on display Monday, per Brendan Sonnone of the Orlando Sentinel:

As tends to be the case with speedy cornerbacks such as Darby, his strength and ability to outmuscle receivers have been in question. He'll have a chance to nullify that weakness Monday in drills, but it could be a completely different story when he's asked to help out in the run game in regular-season games.

He doesn't see any weaknesses in his cover ability, as he told Dane Brugler of CBS Sports:

Any weaknesses in Darby's game don't figure to come to the forefront Monday, at least not in the tempered drills these secondary standouts will be going through at the combine. As for his strengths, that 40-yard dash time will be a concrete representation of his best asset.

It's a speed-driven league, and that's especially so when it comes to guarding against the league's most prolific wideouts. Darby is an established speedster, and that should go a long way toward boosting his stock.
