NFL Combine Schedule 2015: TV Info, Live Stream and More for Day 4

Sean ODonnellFeb 21, 2015

Following two days of physicals and interviews, the first wave of this year's NFL Scouting Combine participants hit the field at Lucas Oil Stadium Friday for workouts. There were mixed results.

Offensive linemen were given their time to shine, and of the potential first-round draft picks, LSU's La'el Collins was arguably the most impressive. He measured at 6'4" and 305 pounds, and while he wasn't a top performer in any event, his impressive agility and footwork were on display during positional drills.

Former NFL coach and current NFL Network analyst Brian Billick tweeted his thoughts:

Tight ends participated on Friday as well; however, there weren't many standouts in a relatively weak draft class.

Minnesota's Maxx Williams was thought to be the cream of the crop, and the 6'4", 249-pound prospect didn't disappoint. He finished as a top performer in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 20-yard shuttle, and he displayed some soft hands during positional drills.

NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah came away impressed with the tight end:

With a better knowledge of what the draft's big men bring to the table following Friday's action, the combine shifts gears to the skill positions on Saturday. Day 4 will feature running backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers, and we can expect a show from a talented and diverse group of prospects.

Before another wave of 2015 draft hopefuls kick it into high gear in Indianapolis, let's take a look at the day's essential viewing information and preview what's to come.

Day 4 Preview

Running Backs

A running back has not been selected in the first round of the draft in each of the last two years. There's a strong possibility that will change in 2015. With Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Georgia's Todd Gurley leading the way in this year's draft class, we may see more than one ball-carrier selected within the first 32 picks.

Running backs began their workouts Friday with the bench press. Gordon and Gurley rattled off 19 and 17 reps, respectively, but other notables stole the show. Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah finished with 24 reps, and Alabama's T.J. Yeldon and Indiana's Tevin Coleman accumulated 22 each.

While showing some strength is always important, Saturday's drills will be extremely crucial for these prospects. The 40-yard dash time is arguably more important for running backs than any other position, and showcasing good hands will significantly bolster draft stocks in today's pass-happy NFL—every team wants a three-down back.

Only one of the draft's top-two backs will be participating Saturday, as Gurley continues to recover from a torn ACL. According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Gurley actually opted out of his Friday physical to allow his knee more time to heal before being examined by doctors. So, that leaves us with Gordon.

Gordon is a fast running back, but don't expect a 40-yard dash time similar to all-time record-holder Chris Johnson (4.24 seconds). He should be able to put up a number around the 4.4- or 4.5-second ballpark, and that should suffice. His biggest task will be proving he can flourish as a pass-catcher due to his inexperience in the role with the Badgers.

Quarterbacks

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans picking at No. 1 and No. 2 overall in this year's draft, the Saturday performances of Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will be very important. After all, both of the draft's top signal-callers announced they will throw at the combine, and according to Buccaneers insider Jenna Laine, the team holding the top pick is excited:

Both quarterbacks were measured Friday, and the findings didn't settle any debates over who should be selected first. Here's a look at the similar NFL-caliber size they share, via NFL on ESPN:

Mariota will likely have the edge in the 40-yard dash, as he's well-known for his ability to create big plays with his legs. However, the question surrounding him is whether he can make NFL-type throws coming out of a non-traditional Oregon offense.

Winston, on the other hand, isn't as much of an athlete, but his time in Florida State's offense may have him better prepared for the impending drills.

While those two players will likely overshadow all others, keep an eye out for UCLA's Brett Hundley. He has NFL size at 6'3" and 226 pounds, and he's highly athletic. However, there are concerns about his mechanics and consistency as a passer. During his press conference, via Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated, Hundley spoke of his desire to prove this year's quarterback class is deeper than most think:

"We're going to have to prove 'em wrong. Obviously, me, Jameis, Mariota, [Bryce] Petty, [Garrett] Grayson make up a great quarterback class. ... We're ready to show the nation that we're better than people make us out to be."

As of now, only Winston and Mariota are expected to be first-round selections. Hundley and the rest will have the chance to make their cases on Saturday.

Wide Receivers

Wide receiver may be this year's deepest position. There are so many prospects with first-round talent, some will likely fall into the second round due to the sheer number of quality pass-catchers entering the NFL.

The wide receivers hit the bench press Friday, and one of the top performers shouldn't come as a surprise. Justin Hokanson of 247Sports tweeted the prospect and his numbers:

Coates is an absolute workout machine. Not only is he strong, but he's freakishly athletic as well. Expect him to run a blazing 40-yard dash on Saturday. However, the area in which he needs to focus is his positional drills. He isn't a reliable route-runner, and a lack of concentration has led to easy drops in the past.

The Auburn standout shared the top performance in the bench press with West Virginia's Kevin White. Scouts are already excited about what White brings to the table. He's 6'3", 215 pounds, incredibly powerful, accelerates quickly and has an enormous catch radius. He's battling with Alabama's Amari Cooper to become the top receiver selected this year, and he's off to a good start.

Cooper doesn't have White's size, but he isn't small at 6'1" and 211 pounds. Still, NFL teams are looking for Calvin Johnson-like receivers these days, so the Alabama product will need to show his polished skill set to impress in Indianapolis. Saturday's performance may decide if he remains atop his position's ranks.

Speaking of Megatron-esque receivers, Oklahoma's Dorial Green-Beckham is an absolute monster. Here's a telling statement on Green-Beckham's talent level from an AFC scout, via Albert Breer of NFL.com:

At 6'5" and 237 pounds with natural athleticism and good hands, Green-Beckham is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. However, his past transgressions may be difficult for NFL teams to overlook. While teams try to figure him out, Green-Beckham will need a very memorable showing at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
