Zlatan Ibrahimovich Banned 2 Matches for Foul vs. St. Etienne

Rory MarsdenFeb 20, 2015

Zlatan Ibrahimovich will miss two of Paris St-Germain's upcoming matches after picking up a retrospective ban for a foul in a match against Saint-Etienne in January.

As Goal.com reports, the talismanic striker will miss both matches against Monaco—one in the league, the other in the cup—early next month through suspension.

The ban relates to a poor tackle on Romain Hamouma back on Jan. 25—in a match which PSG won 1-0 due to Ibrahimovich's penalty—which the Swede was leniently only booked for at the time, per FFW:

A disciplinary committee have decided, arguably quite rightly, that the challenge deserved further punishment, and Ibrahimovich will also have one further match ban suspended for a year, per the Ligue de Football Professionnel's official website (h/t Goal.com):

"

On January 29, 2015, the Commission seized the supplementary report of the referee and had called Zlatan Ibrahimovic following his caution in the 90th minute to its meeting on Thursday, February 19, 2015. After hearing the representatives of the player and the club, the Commission decided to suspend  Zlatan Ibrahimovic for three matches with one suspended for a year.

"

The ban does not come into effect until March 1, thus Ibrahimovich will be available for this weekend's Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse, a boost for PSG considering his continued vital importance to the side, per B/R UK:

However, with the defending champions currently sitting only third in the league behind Marseille and Lyon, his absence could be a huge blow in early March.
