Gianni VerschuerenFeb 19, 2015

Chelsea have issued a quick response to the recent incident following the club's UEFA Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, suspending a total of five fans while the investigation is ongoing. If sufficient evidence in uncovered, they could be banned from Stamford Bridge for life.

The Blues issued a statement via their official website on Feb. 19 explaining the decision and inviting fans to help out in the ongoing investigation:

"

If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life.

We have received substantial information to date following our witness appeal and we are grateful to the many Chelsea supporters who have provided information so far.

Our investigations are on-going and we would request any further information is sent to customer.services@chelseafc.com.

We also continue to cooperate fully with the Metropolitan and Paris police forces who lead the ongoing criminal investigation.

On Feb. 20, the Blues released a second statement announcing that two more had been suspended for the incident:

"

Chelsea Football Club has suspended a further two people from Stamford Bridge as a result of ongoing investigations into the incident on the Paris Metro on Tuesday evening. This makes a total of five to date.

If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life.

"

Following the 1-1 draw on Tuesday, a group of fans was filmed in the Paris Metro repeatedly blocking the entry of one of the carts to a black man. After some pushing and shoving, some of the fans started chanting "We're racist, and that's the way we like it:"

Public outcry over the video was enormous, with fans and pundits alike immediately calling for action. Chelsea condemned the video and asked witnesses to step forward, and it now seems the club is very serious in how it's going to handle those responsible.

As shared by Fox Soccer, the victim himself wants even more drastic measures:

The Metropolitan police is combining with local law enforcement in Paris to bring a quick resolution to the incident, so expect to hear a decision on whether the ban becomes permanent very soon.
