Brandon Bass Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz, Speculation Surrounding Celtics C

Adam WellsFeb 18, 2015

Danny Ainge has already been busy making deals to improve the Boston Celtics' future, though he may not be done with the trade deadline on Thursday. One name that's been speculated about moving is center Brandon Bass, yet there's not a clear destination emerging.

Bass Trade Not Guaranteed

Wednesday, Feb. 18

According to A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast SportsNet New England, Ainge is optimistic that Bass will be with the Celtics beyond this season:

"

Right now, Brandon is with us and Brandon may be with us next year and the year after that as well. [...] What I like about Brandon, he just … he’s never satisfied with his role. He goes about his job the same, every day. He’s a rare guy in that he’s getting better. I think he’s better right now than he’s ever been in his career. And I think his upside is still ahead of him.

"

One reason for Ainge's attitude regarding Bass, who is set to become a free agent after this season, is the market for the center hasn't picked up steam.

Steve Bulpett of The Boston Herald reported as of Feb. 17 that there have been "no bites, or even much of a nibble" from other teams in regards to the Celtics' trade candidates.

Bass has found a niche in four years with the Celtics and is still a productive big man, averaging 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game off the bench. He's a valuable piece to have on a rebuilding club since he isn't likely to command a big salary, so Ainge should keep all his options available.
