Four Workout Warriors Who Will Dominate 2015 NFL Combine

Garrett BakerFeb 19, 2015

The NFL Scouting Combine is finally upon us, and workouts are looming just around the corner. With the eyes of scouts and fans on these prospects, who will stand out as the best athletes?

While the combine doesn't necessarily predict NFL success with great accuracy, it certainly gives a good idea of a player's athletic potential.

These players are arguably four of the biggest athletic freaks who could turn heads this weekend and boost their respective draft stock as a result.

Here are four workout warriors who will dominate the 2015 NFL Combine.

Arik Armstead, DE, Oregon

1 of 4

Arik Armstead will be turning heads just by walking into the room. At a massive 6'8", 290 pounds, he has easily the most impressive natural frame in the entire draft.

He's an extremely raw prospect who has a ton of upside but is still working on the finer points of being a defensive lineman, and his production certainly wasn't overwhelming in 2014 (2.5 sacks).

Armstead was also a standout basketball player in high school, and briefly joined Oregon's team during his time there.

He's going to put up some eye-popping numbers for a guy his size and may solidify a first-round grade from many teams.

Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn

2 of 4

Sammie Coates started making waves as early as the Senior Bowl weigh-in, when he showed that he gained weight that was certainly all muscle.

His physique makes him look more like an outside linebacker than a wide receiver, but his speed is also just flat-out ridiculous.

Take a look at this highlight reel, which shows some of the explosiveness and strength that Coates brings to the table. Look for him to be at or near the top of the 40-yard dash and jumping drills.

Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington

3 of 4

Shaq Thompson is a really interesting case because he seems to be a man without a position. But that's almost a testament to his athleticism more than a detriment to his NFL future.

He played both linebacker and running back at Washington, and his 6'1", 228-pound frame also lends itself to transitioning into a Kam Chancellor-type safety in the pros.

His athleticism helped him wreak havoc as a linebacker, however, with four defensive touchdowns and three forced fumbles in 2014 alone.

There's a very good chance that he ends up stealing the entire show at the combine, because there isn't a single drill that he won't compete to be one of the highest scorers in.

Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

4 of 4

A bit of a wild-card pick here, Devin Smith has stayed somewhat under the radar so far. But the combine will undoubtedly be his time to shine.

Smith is my dark-horse pick to have the fastest 40-yard dash time, but he might impress even more in the jumping drills.

On top of his football skills, Smith was also a sprinter and jumper for Ohio State's track team, and he earned an invitation to the NCAA regional competition for the high jump.

The headline of this highlight video says it all, but watching it proves just how ridiculously fast Smith is.
