Marc Methot, Senators Agree on New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
The Ottawa Senators may yet be sellers at the trade deadline, but one player who won't be going anywhere is defenseman Marc Methot after he and the team agreed to a contract extension on Monday.

Shawn Simpson of TSN thinks it's a great deal for both sides:
Methot is a legitimate top-four blueliner and an excellent defenseman, so he would have been a very popular target for contenders had he been made available before the trade deadline. With the Senators nine points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, it wouldn't have been shocking if the team chose to bring back prospects for Methot.
But Ottawa fans will certainly be pleased they went a different route. Methot has five points in just 17 games this season, as he's battled injuries, though he is averaging 21 minutes and 37 seconds of ice time. With him back in the fold, the Senators could yet make a late push for the postseason.
