Young and boss Louis van Gaal added their thoughts:
Young enjoyed something of a turnaround last term. Van Gaal's decision to deploy a transitional 3-5-2 formation early in the campaign saw many United players struggle, but Young found himself at home as a left-sided wing-back.
He was then pushed into his more natural left-wing position, where he proceeded to provide quality deliveries into the box. He scored two goals—including a vital winner against Newcastle United—and secured five assists in 26 Premier League appearances last season, per WhoScored.com.

The Englishman's future at Old Trafford appeared bleak prior to Van Gaal's arrival. He gained a reputation for diving on the United wing, where he produced just nine goals and 11 domestic assists prior to last season, per WhoScored.com. Young could still be pushed out of the team if Van Gaal adds to Memphis Depay on the left side, but his agreement is a real showing of faith.
In February, Young revealed a piece of advice that defines his route back to form, per United's official website:
"When you come to the biggest club in the world as soon as you walk through the door you can see the size of the club. Over the years I think I’ve grown as a player and grown as a man. I remember Sir Alex [Ferguson] saying to me when I joined that you either come here and grow as a player and person or you fall by the wayside. That’s stuck with me.
"

It will be interesting to see how Van Gaal uses Young moving forward. Many fringe players—Nani, Anderson and Tom Cleverley—have been deemed unneeded since Van Gaal's arrival. Young was one of those at the start of last season, but alongside David De Gea, he can be considered among United's best performers of the 2014-15 campaign.
With this in mind, it's a testament to Young's hard work that he has a Red Devils future to look forward to.
