La Liga to Investigate Barcelona Fans for Singing 'Cristiano Is a Drunk'

Sean FayFeb 15, 2015

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is still taking heat for his now-infamous 30th birthday party, only this time from a more predictable source.

Ronaldo was criticised, for celebrating his 30th just hours after the team lost to Atletico Madrid nine days ago, with even some of his own fans, voicing their displeasure.

Therefore it is hardly surprising that supporters of fierce rivals Barcelona had a pop when they played Levante on Sunday.

Fans at the game were clearly heard singing "Cristiano es un borracho" during the match, which, as per SportsJoe.ie translates as: "Cristiano is a drunk."

Not very nice, but hey, that's football.

Update: February 17

ESPN are now reporting that they are investigating the chants during the match.

According to the report:

"

The LFP said it will review videos, seen on social media, of the fans and present the evidence to the league's Anti-Violence Committee. This is not the first time the LFP has singled out Barcelona to the league's Anti-Violence Committee as chants made during Barcelona's match vs. Espanyol were also subject to a probe.

LFP president Javier Tebas and government ministers Jose Ignacio Wert and Miguel Cardenal have all previously said that insulting chants and songs constitute "symbolic violence," which can lead to physical violence, while the official aim is to rid stadiums of all racist and xenophobic expressions.

"

Per the same report, the LFP said that the evidence will also be presented to the anti-violence commission
