Shelton: 'Exciting' To Meet With Giants

Wednesday, Feb. 25

According to SiriusXM NFL Radio, Shelton had a good impression of the New York Giants: "It was exciting to meet with the Giants. They had a lot of people around when I was there."

Bleacher Report NFL Draft Analyst Matt Miller joined Team Stream Now to discuss where he sees Shelton's best fit in the NFL:

Shelton had an excellent season for Washington, finishing with 93 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. His ability to pressure the quarterback through the interior of the defenseoften the toughest pressure for a quarterback to deal withis very appealing for NFL defensive coordinators.

Shelton is the rare player who can not only play the demanding nose tackle position in a 3-4 defense—a role normally reserved for players who can soak up blockers and keep the linebackers behind him free—but can also rush the passer. That will make him very intriguing to teams, namely those that run 3-4 schemes.

Folks don't normally find themselves glued to nose tackles. But that's just what happened to Doug Farrar of Sports Illustrated when he watched film on Washington:

As with most young prospects, there are aspects of his game that will need to improve. His technique will need to continue to evolve, but that's common for most young players.

While much of the attention in this draft will be focused on the top two quarterbacks, skill position players and edge-rushers, Shelton has all the makings of a very special player at the next level and the sort of nose guard who can dominate for years. That will surely make him a hot property come draft day.
