Pro Player Comparison for Williams
Thursday, April 2
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller broke down the best pro player comparison for Williams:
When Williams is on top of his game, he might be the most dominant defensive player in this draft. He proved as much in this year's Holiday Bowl against Nebraska, accumulating nine tackles and a sack in USC's 45-42 win.
On the season, he finished with 80 tackles and seven sacks. Those are big numbers for an interior player on the defensive line.
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com thinks he'll make an instant impact
"I believe USC end Leonard Williams is the only defender capable of having an immediate impact on a franchise's fortunes from Day 1. Sure, there are others in the class with the potential to deliver occasional 'splash' plays, but there isn't another defender with the talent, physical tools and energy to make a difference on every snap.
"
Interior lineman who can completely dominate a game and rush the passer are pretty rare. It's why Ndamukong Suh is about to be a very rich man on the free agent market. While there are sometimes questions about Williams' consistency or motor, the fact that he has the ability to dominate in that fashion will make him a very hot property at this year's draft.
Frankly, it will be surprising he he drop out of the top three picks. While all of the buzz is about Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston at this year's draft, Williams may end up becoming this class' top player at the next level.
