NFL Combine Schedule 2015: TV Info, Live Stream, Participant List and More

The future of the NFL will be on hand in Indianapolis for the scouting combine, and you're not going to want to miss out on watching what this year's talented draft class has to offer.

It's always fun to watch a player light it up in the NFL and reflect on his combine performance. How many of us watched Chris Johnson rush for 2,006 yards in 2009, elbowed a buddy and said, "I saw this coming when he ran that blazing 4.24-second 40-yard dash during the 2008 combine"?

Will someone finally take down Johnson's record this year? In 2014, Kent State running back Dri Archer came pretty close, running the 40-yard dash in an official 4.26 seconds; but as they say, close only counts in horseshoes.

As we await the 2015 prospects to take over Lucas Oil Stadium, let's take a look at the combine's essential information, overview the combine's current records and analyze a player who could potentially put together a record-breaking performance.

Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn

When the dust settles after the scouting combine, don't be surprised if former Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates is a top performer in almost every category. In fact, don't be surprised if he owns a new combine record or two.

Each year, Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports ranks the top-20 "freaks" of college football. Well, Coates happened to top that list in 2014, and with good reason.

At 6'2" and 213 pounds, Coates has the size and length coveted by NFL scouts. Although, those are far from his only sought-after attributes, as he also has blazing speed, enormous strength and tremendous leaping ability. Not only is he a serious vertical treat, but he's dangerous in the open field and can win contested jump balls in the red zone.

That's pretty darn well-rounded.

The biggest reason Coates isn't considered a top-tier wide receiver in this year's draft is due to his need to continue developing. He's far from a finished product and will need some time to polish up his route running and improve his concentration to avoid costly drops.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller tweeted his take:

Still, if Coates delivers a big performance during the combine—something that is very likely to happen—he could certainly be selected on the first day of the draft.

While Johnson holds the combine's record in the 40-yard dash, Coates has the speed to surpass him. According to Feldman's report, the wide receiver was clocked as low as 4.16 seconds, averaging a time of 4.25 seconds over eight attempts.

Matching his speed is his impressive strength. Coates is reported to bench 405 pounds, according to Feldman, and that strength translates nicely to the field. Here's a look at a massive stiff am that went viral following a 2013 contest against Texas A&M:

Coates should also be expected to excel in the vertical jump. Feldman noted the wide receiver has already been able to hit 44 inches, a leap that would tie for second with Fresno State cornerback A.J. Jefferson (2010 combine).

If Coates lives up to this kind of hype and combines a top-notch performance during these events with a crisp showing in positional drills, he could begin to significantly climb draft boards and solidify himself as a first-round selection.
