Sasha Banks Ends Charlotte's Reign as NXT Divas to Maintain Main Event Form

During the climactic stages of a hit-or-miss pay-per-view, the NXT Divas did not steal the show.

With one nearly flawless match after another at NXT live specials, stealing the show is beneath them.

NXT Rival did not live up to the ridiculously high standards of its predecessors, but somehow the Divas did. The Fatal 4-Way stipulation usually limits the talent involved. Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Bayley and new champion Sasha Banks were the exception.

With creative high spots and even higher drama, there was no shortage of entertainment. Early in the match, Charlotte was tossed into an L.E.D. screen on the side of the ring. The screen temporarily dark.  

To many, this was just another spot. In the grand scheme of things, it was just further evidence that NXT Divas are treated with priority.

On the main roster, Divas matches receive minimal time and are often the backdrop for main event storylines and advertisements.

In this match, however, the flashy L.E.D. screen that promotes the NXT brand was being used as a prop for the Divas. That screen told a story that went beyond wrestling.

NXT Rival had its moments, but was bogged down by several miscues and uncharacteristically slow matches. The Divas remained the constant. It's getting to the point where an NXT Women's Championship match can—and should—easily headline the next live special.

Part of the successful formula is NXT distinguishing characters among each of the top Divas. There's the lovable woman-child, Bayley; the purebred freak, Charlotte; the cocky materialist, Banks; and the Irish, tough chick in Lynch.

Each Diva excels in the ring, but their personalities continue to to draw fan interest.

Any of the four Divas could have walked out with the Women's Championship Wednesday in convincing fashion. Instead of Divas getting called up to the main roster, maybe NXT is where top female talent should aspire to be.

It's that good.
