Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL Draft Kings Strategy for Feb. 14

R. Cory SmithFeb 14, 2015

Did you spend entirely too much money on Valentine's Day for your significant other? Luckily, there is a full slate of NHL matchups to pick apart this Saturday for DraftKings player. Here's a look at players to target to guarantee a victory on Valentine's Day.

C Tomas Plekanec, Montreal Canadiens ($5,800)

Not to toot my own horn, but...toot toot!

Earlier this week, we advised owners to pick Tomas Plekanec against the Edmonton Oilers due to his recent production. In return, he had another assist, a blocked shot and a total of 4.5 points in DraftKings leagues.

Montreal may have taken the loss, but Plekanec's production remained solid. At just $5,800, he is a good option for a No. 1 center spot for those who want to spend more on another position. Look for Plekanec to put up good points against a porous Toronto Maple Leafs defense.

W Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks ($6,600)

Fans on the East Coast will have to wait until late to find out how Daniel Sedin produces, but he's a promising option. The Vancouver Canucks left wing has four points in his last three games, including two goals against the Blackhawks earlier this week.

At the price of just $6,600, it's hard to find a better top-line wing with equivalent production. He might not be the elite scorer he once was, but Sedin is still a great player against a Calgary Flames team that ranks 26th against left wings.

D Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings ($5,600)

He might not be scoring at a high clip lately, but Drew Doughty racks up fantasy points in myriad ways. Thanks to his hits and blocked shots in the last 10 games, the Los Angeles Kings defenseman is still averaging 3.6 fantasy points per game.

Doughty puts up good numbers each night thanks to the amount of time he's on the ice, via Left Wing Lock:

In the last matchup for the Kings, Doughty pulled off a six-point night with an assist and six blocked shots. Going up against a Washington Capitals team that ranks 23rd in points allowed to defensemen, Doughty is a dependable option for owners.

G Jhonas Enroth, Dallas Stars ($7,200)

Averaging 3.9 fantasy points per game, Jhonas Enroth was a decent option for the Buffalo Sabres between the pipes this season. Now that he's with the Dallas Stars, he should get his first chance to prove his talent on Saturday night.

With back-to-back games for the Stars, it's unlikely that Kari Lehtonen will make another start on consecutive nights. Facing a Colorado Avalanche team that has lost its last four games, Enroth will be a quality start for daily owners.

UTIL Derek Stepan, New York Rangers ($4,500)

The numbers haven't been great for Derek Stepan recently, but he's due for a breakout soon. Look for that to happen against the Arizona Coyotes defense for the New York Rangers second center.

Paired up with two hot players like Mats Zuccarello and Rick Nash on the first power play unit, Stepan has a great chance to put up points. At his price, locking Stepan into a utility spot will pay dividends on Valentine's Day.
