Anders Lindback to Sabres for Jhonas Enroth: Latest Trade Details and Reaction

Adam WellsFeb 11, 2015

While not a significant upgrade to one of the worst goaltending situations in the NHL, the Dallas Stars have reportedly traded Anders Lindback to Buffalo for Jhonas Enroth.

Bob McKenzie of TSN reported the deal:

Chris Johnston of SportsNet Canada provided details of what the Sabres will receive from the Stars in return for Enroth:

According to McKenzie, the draft pick going to Buffalo is conditional depending on how the Stars finish this season:

The Sabres own the league's worst record at 16-36-3 with just 35 points, so acquiring a future draft pick is essential for this franchise to pull itself out of apathy. They also get back a goaltender in Lindback, who can take over for Enroth.

The Stars are fighting for their playoff lives with 58 points, tied for 10th in the Western Conference, thanks to allowing the third-most goals per game (3.2). That ineptitude on defense has negated one of the best offenses, as Dallas ranks second in goals per game (3.1).

Enroth has hardly been a rock in the net for Buffalo, posting a 13-21-2 record and 3.27 goals against average this season, but he was steady in a part-time role, allowing between 2.6 and 2.82 goals per game in the last four years.

Lindback has only started 74 games in five seasons and has been a mess with 3.71 goals allowed per game this year. He's a low-risk investment for the Sabres, who aren't going anywhere this season anyway.

Both teams gave up very little with the hopes of hitting big. The Stars hope Enroth can be the answer to push them into the playoffs, and the Sabres hope Enroth succeeds because it gives them a better draft pick. This trade looks like a win-win for each side.
