Lucroy Ahead of Schedule In Recovery

Sunday, March 8

Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on Lucroy's recovery, as the catcher could possibly return to Cactus League action a week or two ahead of schedule:

"

"I think it'll be a lot sooner than that," Lucroy said Friday morning before the Brewers' game with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Maryvale Baseball Park.

"I feel pretty good already but obviously we're going to be cautiously optimistic about it and take our time. There's no sense in rushing it because I'm sure I'll get plenty of playing time, so I'm not really too worried about it."

Manager Ron Roenicke confirmed Lucroy's accelerated timetable. The key will be to get Lucroy to see enough live pitching and get him up to speed with the bat.

"I think there's a pretty good chance," Roenicke said. "We talked to the minor-league side to see what they have going on, and they've got some simulated games or BP starting the 11th.

"Luc would like to see some live pitching before, so we'll try to pick some spots before to see if we can get him feeling pretty comfortable before he starts some games.

"The timing of it, the way I look at it on the schedule, we have a lot of games left once he starts playing. So I think we'll be OK with it."

Lucroy Injures Hamstring

Wednesday, Feb. 11

The Brewers confirmed that Lucroy is slated to miss 4-6 weeks with the injury.

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reported that Lucroy received a PRP injection to help stimulate the recovery.

Assistant general manager Gord Ash commented more on the injury, per Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Not only does the injury mean that Lucroy will lose a chunk of time working with the pitching staff during spring training but he'll also lose the chance to adjust to a secondary position, as Haudricourt noted:

Lucroy is coming off of a career year for the Brewers. He hit .301 with 13 home runs, 69 RBI, 73 runs and an National League-leading 53 doubles. He finished with a 6.7 WAR among position players, which was tops in the NL, according to Baseball-Reference, and he made his first All-Star Game and finished fourth in the MVP voting.

The Brewers will certainly be hoping Lucroy's hamstring issue doesn't become a lingering problem this season. Lucroy is a huge part of the team's core and has really established himself as a top catcher over the past few seasons.

It's certainly better for the team that this injury occurred now rather than during the season. The Brewers will be hoping this is nipped in the bud, and Lucroy is good to go once the season begins.
