NXT TakeOver 4: Predictions for Every Match on 'Rival' Card

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 10, 2015

We've been waiting patiently for three months, but it's finally here. This Wednesday, NXT will put on its fifth live special, appropriately titled TakeOver: Rival.

The reason that title is so fitting is because every match on the card, save for one, will be contested between people who have been at war with each other over the past several weeks.

This is especially true when it comes to the main event match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. These two were best friends until Owens decided success was more important and attacked Zayn immediately following his victory at the last live special.

As of right now, we know of five bouts that will take place on Wednesday. Three of them are for titles and one is for a shot at the NXT Championship, so it goes without saying that this will be a big night for the developmental brand.

Let's go through the different matches and see if we can predict who will walk out of Rival with a victory.

Baron Corbin vs. Bull Dempsey (No Disqualification)

1 of 5

For the past three months, Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey have been at each other's throats, and they will finally have a match without the traditional rules to hold them back from doing their worst.

Corbin has won pretty much every encounter these two men have had, but don't expect that to mean he will automatically be in line for another victory.

Dempsey might not be your average WWE Superstar, but that is what makes him unique. His look and style are completely unorthodox, and in a world filled with a lot of people all trying to do the same thing, he stands out like a sore thumb.

Considering Corbin has already racked up a number of victories in this feud, it seems like Dempsey is due for a win, and that is exactly what will happen on Wednesday.

Prediction: Bull Dempsey

Finn Balor vs. Adrian Neville (No. 1 Contender's Match)

2 of 5

The last few weeks saw several Superstars compete in a tournament to crown a new No. 1 contender to the NXT Championship, and the two men who fought their way to the finals will battle for the next title shot on Wednesday.

Finn Balor and Adrian Neville are both extremely gifted wrestlers with more skills than most people could dream of. When they lock up at TakeOver, it will be a clinic.

The tough thing is deciding who is the right choice. Neville served as a great champion during his recent reign, but it might be time for some new blood to have a chance at glory.

Balor has only been around a few months, but he has made a big impression on the NXT fans, and seeing him walk away with a future title shot would certainly make a lot of people happy.

It seems like Neville is primed for a move to the main roster soon, so giving him the victory wouldn't make much sense at this point, which is why Balor will pick up the win and earn a shot at the title.

Prediction: Finn Balor

The Lucha Dragons vs. Murphy and Blake (NXT Tag Titles)

3 of 5

After only a few short months, Sin Cara and Kalisto lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake.

Murphy and Blake have shown their skills on multiple occasions, but it was still shocking to see them pick up the win, especially after losing so many matches prior to their title shot.

But that's what NXT is all about, giving these young men and women a chance to shine and learn before they get called up to the big leagues.

Here's where the situation on the main roster may affect the outcome of a match in the developmental system. With the impending breakup of two top teams, WWE management needs to bring in some new blood to fill the division back up.

Sin Cara and Kalisto fit the bill and could easily find themselves mixing it up with The Usos very soon, so giving the titles back to them seems pointless.

It also seem unlikely that WWE would put the titles on Murphy and Blake just to have the duo drop them to the former champions a few weeks later.

It will definitely be a fun match, but expect Murphy and Blake to retain when the dust settles.

Prediction: Murphy and Blake

Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch (NXT Women's Title)

4 of 5

Fatal-4-Way matches can be very tricky. They're either highly entertaining, or they look like four chickens running around with their heads cut off.

Thankfully, the four women involved in this match are all talented enough to make it work. We have seen just about every combination of these four in singles and tag bouts, and they usually put on a great show.

When Charlotte steps into the ring with Bayley, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch on Wednesday, she will face her biggest challenge to date, and it's going to be very fun to watch.

As for who should win the match, that's kind of tough. Lynch is the newest of the bunch, so she is probably going to have to wait for her time with the title.

Charlotte has been an incredible champion, but it feels like it's time to let someone else run with the belt, so that leaves Banks and Bayley.

Either one of them would make a great women's champion. They both have good characters, legit wrestling skills and generate the kind of response from the crowd management loves.

Since neither one is the clear choice, we have to go by seniority, which makes Bayley the winner in the end.

Prediction: Bayley

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens (NXT Championship)

5 of 5

Ever since Kevin Owens powerbombed Sami Zayn into the ring apron at R Evolution, we have been waiting for the day these two former best friends would have their big showdown. It will finally happen on Wednesday.

These two men share years of history from before their time in NXT, and WWE was wise to acknowledge that and use it as part of the storyline.

If their previous encounters are anything to go by, this is going to be a very physical match. Just watch the included video to see the lengths they will go to in order to have a great match.

Zayn may be known more for his exciting moves than for throwing punches, but he can throw down when he needs to. Owens, on the other hand, is known more for his brawling skills, but we saw during the last live special that he is willing to take the necessary risks to put on a good show.

Zayn had a long journey to the title, and seeing him lose it after only a few months would be depressing for his legions of fans. Owens would make a good champion, but it's a little too early to put the top developmental title on him.

It's not going to be an easy win, but Zayn will walk out of Rival with the title still draped over his shoulder.

Prediction: Sami Zayn
