British viewers would have feared a Saturday afternoon kick-off because, as the Independent noted last October:
"Broadcasting rules dating back to the 1960s state that no live football may be shown on British television between the hours of 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday.
"
That rule, implanted to try and protect attendances at matches, meant that viewers missed the first 15 minutes of the first Clasico of the season, and instead had to watch Bleacher Report's own Guillem Balague following the opening of the game on his iPad.
The same rule meant that Saturday's Madrid derby was not shown live on British television due to its 3 p.m. kick-off time.
