If Rusev was trying to eliminate John Cena before the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view, then he nearly accomplished his goal on WWE Raw Monday night.

WWE.com announced that Rusev caused further damage to Cena's right eye during an attack on the entrance ramp.

"We're going to do periodic eye exams to make sure the scratch on his cornea is healing and he will be ready for WWE Fastlane," said WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann.

Amann mentioned that he doesn't have a hard-and-fast timetable for when Cena could return.

It would be surprising if he didn't make it to Fastlane, though, which is scheduled for Feb. 22. Maybe he'll show up looking like Hulk Hogan from WrestleMania IX:

Whether the injury was real or being played up as part of the storyline, it definitely adds another wrinkle to Cena and Rusev's match at Fastlane. Rusev will look to exploit the ailment at every opportunity.
