Borussia Dortmund: 5 Potential Replacements Should Marco Reus Leave This Summer
Borussia Dortmund may only just be climbing out this current Bundesliga relegation crisis, but unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp's side, another potential hiccup looms on the horizon.
It may not come as a surprise to any fans of the Westfalenstadion side, but there is a distinct possibility that Dortmund's best player, Marco Reus, may decide to move on to pastures new this summer and force the club to find an alternative.
The German international has constantly been linked with moves to some of Europe's biggest clubs—the most recent coming from the Mirror on February 5 and linking him with Barcelona—and will undoubtedly have his pick of a number of sides.
But how best could Dortmund replace such a talent should he decide to move on? Here are five players we reckon would love to take a stab at filling his role at the club.
Nabil Fekir
1 of 5
We begin today's list with a 21-year-old player who has already forced himself into an impressive Lyon side and become one of the French league's brightest and most exciting attacking talents.
According to WhoScored, Nabil Fekir has notched up 10 goals and six assists this season playing a variation of roles, including being the main striker and serving as a No. 10.
The Frenchman may not have Reus' favour for playing on the wing, but he's young, hungry and fantastic at finding a direct route to goal, and he would undoubtedly add to this Dortmund side.
Memphis Depay

The Dutch Eredivisie has long proven to be a happy hunting ground for some of the Bundesliga's largest clubs in the hope of finding outstanding talent in a cheaper market.
One player who will undoubtedly be on Dortmund's shortlist with or without the sale of Reus will be young PSV forward Memphis Depay, a left-winger who could quite easily slot into this Dortmund side and add plenty to the team.
Depay, like Reus, enjoys cutting in from the left and going straight for goal. Both players are primarily midfielders or wingers but always tend to score more than they assist. Should Reus take off this summer, few players could come in and do exactly what the German international does so well like Depay.
Claudio Beauvue
3 of 5
In Claudio Beauvue, we have a player who brings with him a terrifying goalscoring record but also an ability to play across a front line and midfield, which would definitely help him fit into a Klopp side in the future.
The 26-year-old has been playing as a forward for Guingamp all season in a traditional 4-4-2 formation but did spend the campaign before playing on the wing.
As WhoScored would point out, the striker now has 19 goals to his name in all competitions this season and would surely find just as much success either up front or on the wing for Dortmund. He is a quality goalscorer who wouldn't break the bank.
Roberto Firmino
4 of 5
This player will undoubtedly need little introduction for most Dortmund fans. Hoffenheim's Roberto Firmino has long held the interest of many fans and club managers across the league.
The Brazilian international is first and foremost a traditional No. 10 who enjoys playing through the middle of the park, so Klopp may have to shuffle his attacking line around to fit him in, but in Firmino, Dortmund would be picking up one of the most outstanding young talents in the Bundesliga today.
According to WhoScored, the 23-year-old has nine goals and six assists this season for an inconsistent Hoffenheim side. Imagine what he could do at the heart of Dortmund's front line.
Adem Ljajic
5 of 5
Adem Ljajic comes into this list with perhaps the weakest goalscoring record of the five—only eight goals in 24 matches for Roma this season according to WhoScored—but what the 23-year-old attacker may lack in goals at Roma he certainly makes up for in performances.
The Serbian international is an out-and-out winger of sorts, playing on both flanks with absolute ease. He enjoys cutting inside and creating goals much like Reus does at the Westfalenstadion, when fit, from one week to the next.
Enjoying his second season at Roma since leaving for Fiorentina, this summer may be the perfect time to snatch up the young forward before his value goes through the roof.
