Kaman Out With Back Injury
Thursday, Feb. 5
Portland Trail Blazers center Chris Kaman will miss Thursday night's game against the Phoenix Suns due to lower back pain, the team announced an hour before tipoff.
No word was given on how Kaman was injured. Kaman played 21 minutes in Tuesday night's 103-102 win over the Utah Jazz, failing to score but adding five rebounds and two assists. The 7-footer was returning to his more regular bench role with Robin Lopez returning from injury.
Lopez and Meyers Leonard will likely fulfill Kaman's duty by splitting minutes at center. Lopez is still working his way back into game shape, so Thursday might turn into a bit of a showcase for Leonard, who has become a reliable offensive contributor off the bench.
Kaman, in his first season with the Blazers, is averaging 9.1 points and 6.8 rebounds on 48.3 percent shooting. He has been a surprisingly solid contributor overall, adding some offensive pop and length to a Portland bench that sorely needed it.
