Charlotte, Solomon Crowe and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Charlotte's busy schedule points to her heading to WWE's main roster soon, perhaps even exiting NXT before Solomon Crowe finally arrives.
Charlotte and Sasha Banks continue to get opportunities to perform at main-roster live events, which leads one to believe that they are destined to leave WWE developmental behind before long. Crowe can only dream of shots like that. So far, the company hasn't even afforded him the chance to wrestle on TV.
That is set to change.
In other NXT news, a well-traveled indy wrestler showed up at a recent tryout, the NXT Divas division made a statement via video, and a former MMA fighter is trying to work his way into the squared circle.
Word on Recent Tryouts
1 of 5NXT officials got a long look at another batch of potential prospects. Two interesting names were among that group.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) reports that WWE invited 20 men and 20 women to the Performance Center. Both Tessa Blanchard (daughter of Tully Blanchard) and Biff Busick were there.
Blanchard has played one of Adam Rose's Rosebuds in the past. She previously worked for the East Coast Wrestling Association in New Jersey.
Busick has wrestled all over the United States and Europe, competing for the likes of Evolve and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. He's an excellent striker and produces physical, intense bouts.
WWE is smart to scout him.
NXT Teases Solomon Crowe's Debut
2 of 5After a long wait, Solomon Crowe appears to be heading toward his TV debut.
NXT aired a teaser on last week's episode that was made to look like a technical malfunction. The company later shared the clip on Twitter.
You can see the word "Solomon" pop up at one point, as well as a photograph of a crow. The style suggests that Crowe is keeping his hacker gimmick or at least some variation on it.
He is among the most talented wrestlers in WWE developmental, but his size and unconventional look make him far from a prototypical Superstar. It will be intriguing to see how NXT presents him—whether he's treated like a threat or more in the vein of CJ Parker, a guy to fill out the roster.
NXT Divas Take Part in 'Like a Girl" Video
3 of 5After feminine care brand Always aired a Super Bowl commercial promoting self-confidence in young girls, NXT followed suit. The original ad encouraged people to share their thoughts on the qualifier "like a girl."
NXT put together a video featuring Alexa Bliss, Carmella, Sasha Banks and several other female prospects taking on the theme.
The video hasn't created the kind of buzz that the original did, but it's well-made and contains a good message. NXT practices what it preaches too, as the Divas get ample opportunities to shine.
When they make their way to the main roster, though, the idea of gender equality fades. The main roster Divas get shafted when it comes to divvying up time in the ring and onscreen.
Former UFC Fighter Training for Pro Wrestling Career
4 of 5NXT scouts have another bruiser to keep an eye on. Former UFC and Bellator fighter Phil Baroni is moving on to a pro wrestling career.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc) Baroni is now training with Kenny King, D-Lo Brown and Michael Modest at the Future Stars of Wrestling gym.
He's an imposing man who is skilled in striking. During his MMA career, he exuded the kind of charisma and swagger required in WWE.
The biggest downside about his potential as a prospect, though, is his age: Baroni is already 38 years old.
NXT Divas Work More WWE Events
5 of 5Charlotte and Sasha Banks have found a second home on the main roster. The NXT standouts have been a steady sight at house shows, a trend that continued this week.
As F4WOnline notes, Charlotte and Banks worked on opposite teams for the WWE live event in Calgary, Alberta, on Feb. 1. They competed in another tag match in Edmonton, Alberta, on Jan. 31, per PWInsider. Per ProFightDB.com, Banks and Charlotte also collided in the dark match before Tuesday's SmackDown taping.
PWInsider's Mike Johnson also reports that Banks and Charlotte were backstage at Monday's Raw.
Both women will be clashing in a Fatal 4-Way match at NXT's live special set for Feb. 11. As Johnson notes for PWInsider, that event now has a name. He writes that it "has been officially re-titled NXT Takeover: Rival."
WWE clearly recognizes that Charlotte and Banks are the top Divas in developmental. All these opportunities outside of Full Sail University will better prepare them for the adjustment to the main roster.
Considering how often they're getting those opportunities, it's a safe bet that this transition will begin before long. If Bayley or Becky Lynch wins the NXT's Women Championship next week, it would free Charlotte story-wise to move on to WWE proper.
