2015 NFL Draft: Team-by-Team Selection Order Following Super Bowl

Steven CookFeb 2, 2015

The instant classic that was the 2015 Super Bowl is in the books, and the New England Patriots' victory over the Seattle Seahawks means that the NFL draft order is complete.

While 20 of the 32 teams have known where they will be selecting for quite some time, 12 others have had to wait for the postseason's end to find out their fate. All that was left to decide was who would pick last, and the Patriots gladly took that honor by stealing Seattle's bid for a repeat.

Alas, being able to pick 31st instead of 32nd is probably the most inconsequential consolation prize Seahawks fans could have expected in their worst nightmares. That's especially so after the disbelief-inducing finish Sunday night.

Key 1st-Round Picks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers, No. 1 Overall

The top overall pick could signal a changing of the guard in Tampa Bay.

Hopeful to find some offensive identity following a forgettable 2014 campaign, the Buccaneers should be looking primarily at the quarterback spot at No. 1 overall. And for all intents and purposes, the decision looks to be between Rose Bowl quarterbacks Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston.

Mariota looked to be the guy as the college football season concluded, and that's becoming more and more apparent, as ESPN's Adam Schefter stated, "There's a real sense that Tampa Bay has its sights set on [Mariota]."

Chris Mortensen of ESPN added more promising news for Bucs fans hoping for Mariota, as per the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman:

The Bucs have a wealth of needs to address if head coach Lovie Smith is going to survive in Tampa Bay, but none are more pressing and alarming than at the quarterback spot. With that in mind, the Bucs should be expected to turn in no other direction with the top pick.

New York Jets, No. 6 Overall

The New York Jets enter the 2015 draft with a decision at No. 6 that will help to define their trajectory with a new front office and coaching staff. But the first order of business is deciding who those front office personnel will be.

And the Jets seem to be in the latter stages of that transition, having made a number of key moves toward solidifying their leadership, as per a string of tweets from NFL Network's Albert Breer:

With that out of the way, said front office personnel can focus on the first big decision they'll be critiqued for. And it's one that they can take in a number of different directions.

The easy pick would be to grab Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston—or a top gunslinger—with the selection after failed progression from Geno Smith and boundless issues at the position over recent seasons. A stud cornerback is needed just as badly in the Big Apple, but with no elite cornerback prospects in this draft class, selecting one at No. 6 might be a stretch.

The main other pressing need for the Jets is up front offensively, but that inevitably brings us back to the quarterback. Without a game-changer under center—or at least a steady improvement—New York might as well not improve the offensive line. Its effects will be minimal without any potential at quarterback.

Oakland Raiders, No. 4 Overall

The Oakland Raiders have picked early in the first round of recent drafts so often that they are getting used to the view, but perhaps 2015 could be the beginning of the end of that concerning trend.

If it's going to be, the Raiders desperately need their selection to bring some life to an offense that ranked dead last in rushing and 26th in passing. Rookie quarterback Derek Carr showed his potential and the defense took some major steps, but this team needs exponentially more to threaten opponents.

Perhaps a receiver like Amari Cooper would fit the bill, as the Alabama wideout contains the complete package and looks to be ready to become a featured receiver from Day 1. Carr struggled mightily to find chemistry in the passing game in 2014, but that would be a distant memory with a crisp route-runner like Cooper in the fold.

If Oakland has its sights set on any other receiver in Round 1 (and there are plenty), it might be wise to explore trading down and acquiring some picks later in the draft or for next year's event.
