Katy Perry Super Bowl 2015 Halftime Show Payouts and Prop Results

Tyler ConwayFeb 2, 2015

Katy Perry promised a Super Bowl halftime show that would appeal to the broadest audience in history. I'm not sure she achieved that goal, but those who consider themselves Katy Kats likely left Super Sunday satisfied.

Perry, whose wardrobe ranged from a ridiculous flame suit to a ridiculous oversized Super Bowl jacket, offered a medley of hits so strong you might forget she's only three albums into her career. The 30-year-old pop star, as is typical for these performances, ran through songs at such a fast pace that it was impossible to get entirely wrapped into one, but she kept the energy and danger high.

At different points, Perry was riding on the back of a mechanical lion standing on its hind legs and hanging dangerously high on a star platform barely big enough to hold her feet. The star platform also oddly looked like "The More You Know" logo, but that's neither here nor there.

Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott were also booked as special guests, with the former playing guitar and singing a verse on a rock-infused "I Kissed a Girl" and the latter playing three of her own hits.

OK, enough with the recapping. What you all want to know is who made money. With that in mind, let's check in on the Perry-related props for Sunday night and see how they turned out.

Which Song Will Katy Perry Perform First at Halftime?

Winner: "Roar" (3-2)

This one should have been pretty obvious. Perry isn't an old enough act that she needs to start her performance with a song out of her back catalogue. She's been a hit-making machine since arriving on the scene six years ago, and her latest album, Prism, has a few notable songs to choose from.

"Firework," which was a co-favorite at 3-2, works much better as a closing song. It's an inspirational, semi-slow jam that leaves you feeling good. "Roar" is more of a build-up song, and it set the table for an uptempo transition into "Dark Horse."

None of the other songs listed made any particular sense. "This Is How We Do" is the most recent single, but it has already been worked out of rotations. "E.T." needed a Kanye West remix to reach No. 1 and wasn't even performed. "Wide Awake" is a good pop song but not an opener for a massive concert. I had totally forgotten "Waking Up in Vegas" existed.

So, yeah. "Roar" was the only answer.

What Will Katy Perry Be Wearing When She Begins the Halftime Show?

Winner: Skirt or Dress (4-5)

This is an uncomfortable prop to be writing about from a male perspective. It feels rather creepy. But I would love to know who told Ms. Perry this flame suit was a good idea and have a long talking-to with that person.

Kids, if you want to be like Katy Perry, I do not blame you. But please, for the love of all things we cherish in this world, do not make flame suits a trend. Thank you.

What Color Will Katy Perry's Hair Be When She Begins the Halftime Show?

Winner: Black/Brown (2-1)

Another public service announcement while I'm being all preachy: It appears, thankfully, that the trend of female pop stars with neon-colored hair is finally reaching an end. It was obnoxious, and I am glad it is gone. Dying your hair a color out of a cartoon should be reserved for eight-year-olds who buy spray cans at county fairs.

Thankfully, Ms. Perry obliged with her not-natural-but-still-normal black. Her hair looked nice, and whoever styled it should get a bonus. And thankfully, it was not pink, purple, green or some other weird color on a video game spectrum.

It's kind of amazing the odds were 2-1 given how rarely Perry has deviated from her standard look of late. Oh well. More free money for us.
