Breaking News: Leon Powe Looks To Sign With Cleveland Cavaliers

Tony SantorsaAug 11, 2009

CLEVELANDSources have stated that former Boston Celtics forward Leon Powe has agreed to terms on a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Details of the contract have said to be a two-year deal and the money part of the deal has not be leaked out yet.

Cleveland is doing everything it can to bolster its rebounding in the paint, now acquiring Powe along with All-Star Shaquille O'Neal.

Powe is 6'8" and has a large frame, weighing in at 240 pounds.

The big man averaged 7.7 points and about five rebounds while filling in for the injured Kevin Garnett last year for the Celtics. Although Powe is currently recovering from a torn ACL, he should bring some needed depth to the Cavs.

Boston, on the other hand, can afford to lose the all-heart, tough big man. Boston this offseason acquired highly regarded free agent Rasheed Wallace, and also they added forward Shelden Williams and swingman Marquis Daniels. And just recently, sources have stated that Boston has agreed to terms to re-sign power forward Glen Davis.

The NBA Eastern Conference will be a tough one to play in next year for the Cavs, Celts, and Magic. All three of those teams have made it the NBA Finals recently, with only Boston winning it.

Although Boston has now just lost Powe, in my opinion, they are the front-runners to win the East because they have such a deep bench with Wallace, Daniels, and “Big Baby” Davis.
