The Usos vs. the Miz and Damien Mizdow: Winner, Reaction from 2015 Royal Rumble

The Usos have been WWE Tag Team champions for much of the past year, and they extended their latest reign Sunday night at the Royal Rumble by defeating The Miz and Damien Mizdow.

David Herro of PWRShow believes The Usos are on the way up:

Jimmy and Jey have been at odds with The Miz and Mizdow for the past few months. After The Miz and Mizdow won the tag straps in a Fatal 4-Way match at Survivor Series, the Samoan twins secured the titles for a second time when they beat Miz and Mizdow on the Dec. 29 edition of Raw.

One of the biggest forms of heat between The Usos and the duo of Miz and Mizdow was Miz's sudden interest in Jimmy's wife, Naomi. The Miz insisted that he could help make Naomi a star in Hollywood, but Jimmy felt as though he was simply trying to take advantage of her in order to beat The Usos.

While that aspect of the rivalry has waned a bit recently, there has still been a great deal of interaction between the two teams.

Perhaps the most entertaining part of the feud is the fact that Jimmy and Jey are legitimately twins, while Miz and Mizdow merely act like it. Mizdow has become one of the most popular Superstars in WWE due to his antics, which involve him imitating The Miz.

The Usos have played into that gimmick too, as seen in this Vine courtesy of WWE's official Twitter account:

There is no question that the matches between these two teams have been entertaining due to both the in-ring work and the comedic excellence of Miz and Mizdow. All of that was once again on full display at the Royal Rumble, and it made for a strong contest.

It can certainly be argued that WWE's tag team division is in a lull of sorts, but The Usos and Miz and Mizdow have done an excellent job of carrying the mail in recent months.

Even so, Jimmy Uso revealed in an interview leading up to the Rumble that he was hoping for a true renaissance in the realm of tag team wrestling, according to Jonathan McLarty of The Flagship (Norfolk Navy):

"

I feel like my brother and I amped it up because we are a real tag team. There aren't any real tag teams like back in the day with the Legion of Doom, Hart Foundation, Demolition. Today, we're trying to get that tag team wrestling back to WWE. I think we're doing a good job, but it could get better. ... I hope when more tag teams come in the future that they stay together and we can have a real tag team division like back in the day.

"

It remains to be seen if that renaissance is on the horizon, but it is quite clear that The Usos will be leading the way if it is.

Who they do battle with is very much up for debate. The Miz and Mizdow have played the foil to The Usos for quite some time, as pointed out by former WWE Superstar Lance Storm:

With The Usos defeating The Miz and Mizdow once again, though, one can only assume that Rikishi's sons will be moving on to a new challenge.

Regardless of what that challenge is, The Usos seem ready and willing to meet it head on.
