Key Matchup: Tom Brady vs. Andrew Luck
Luck outdueled Manning last weekend, and the excitement surrounding the battle against Brady and the New England Patriots has the vast majority of football fans ecstatic about the matchup.
Luck did throw two interceptions against the Broncos in the divisional round, but he kept his composure and helped his team pull ahead. His tenacity on the field and on the sidelines is contagious, and his ability to thrive in big moments will make him a star in the NFL.
While there is no questioning how dangerous the Denver defense was this season, New England possesses legitimate playmakers as well and will force Luck to be at his best. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco may have thrown for 292 with four touchdowns against the Patriots last weekend, but he also threw two interceptions, and his team lost the game.
If Luck wants to lead the Colts to the Super Bowl, he will have to avoid cornerback Darrelle Revis and outduel Brady using Indianapolis' top-ranked pass attack (averaging 305.9 yards per game.)
On the other hand, Brady knows exactly what to expect from playing in the AFC Championship Game and will not be intimidated by the big stage. Against Baltimore in the divisional round, Brady threw for 367 yards, three touchdowns and just one interception.
Brady told ESPN.com, "We're very fortunate to be in this position to have a chance to play in it. I think more so than anything, you're just excited for the opportunity to be able to do it. It's hard to do and our team found a way to get there this year so hopefully we can take advantage of the opportunity."
Brady will have his hands full with the Colts defense. While it isn't as star-studded as the other defensive units in the postseason, Indianapolis finished the season 12th in the league against the pass, allowing just 229.3 yards per game.
If New England can force the Colts to run the ball more often and can take the early lead, the Patriots and Brady could be heading back to the Super Bowl. On the other hand, Luck protecting the football could result in yet another upset win for Indy this playoff run.
Predicted Final Score: New England 33, Indianapolis 30
