Raiders Unlikely to Re-Sign McFadden
Thursday, Feb. 19
Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the Raiders were unlikely to bring McFadden back next season on another bargain basement deal.
McFadden managed to play a full season in 2014, a rarity for the oft-injured ball-carrier, rushing for 534 yards and two touchdowns while also catching 36 passes for 212 yards. His 3.4 yards per carry average was quite mediocre, however, and despite being just 27 years of age, he often lacked the burst and the acceleration that made him such a prized prospect coming out of Arkansas.
McFadden, who was drafted fourth overall by the Raiders in 2008, has been a bust. He's rushed for over 1,000 yards just once and has missed 29 games in his seven-year career. It's hard to say what he might have accomplished had injuries been less of an issue, but at this point, it appears his best football is well behind him.
It's become pretty clear in Oakland that the team would prefer to go with youngster Latavius Murray at running back, making it hard to imagine the Raiders re-signing McFadden in anything more than a backup role. While he may find more promising offers elsewhere, even that seems unlikely.
In other words, Run-DMC's days in Oakland appear to be numbered.
