Is Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban Too Attached To Certain Players?
Janet KesslerAug 7, 2009
Mavericks fans help me out here...
Is it me, or does it look like Mark Cuban had gotten just a little too attached, to certain players on the team?
It appears to me it's to the point of a "Bubba" club. Even to a point that if it would make the team better, I don't believe he would make the "Deal."
Now, we all have are fan favorites. I have mine as well. The bottom line is we want a Championship in Dallas. If it takes trading away my favorite team player (what am I thinking) so be it (gulp).
Can I stirrup two camp of people out there?
There are those of you who like our team just the way it is. "It's not broke so don't fix it" mentality.
Please ask yourselves this one little question, "Just what has Bubba won for me lately?." The answer is...N.O.T.H.I.N.G!!!
And then there are those like me (the smart ones) who are not happy with this teams Summers trading. We still believe this team still needs to be shaken up a bit.
It's a real "Bubba's" club:
Mavericks fans do you realize we have had the same core four players since 2004?
That's right! Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Jason Terry, and can't get an upgrade Erik Dampier.
Another common thread to these "Bubba's" is their ages. All of them are over thirty(with the exception of Howard), and are NOT getting any younger.
First there is Dirk Nowitzki, who has just turned 31. True confessions here, I will be one of the biggest cry-babies in the City of Dallas when he eventually leaves the game. I know I'm not the only one out there.
Josh Howard has been surgically repaired. He is now 29 years old. He is expected to change positions and play starting two-guard. He will be completely healthy for the first time in two seasons.
I have seen Josh TRY to play two-guard, it is a completely different mind-set from the small-forward he normally plays. Mostly what I remember is how lost he looked at the two-guard.
Ask yourselves this question: If Howard was that good at the two, why didn't the Mavericks use him more in small-all lineups?
Jason "Jet" Terry is 31 years old. Again Jet faded away in post-season(more on that later).
Jet is primed and ready to defend his title as six-man of the year. Platooning the two-guard with Howard, Jet should still get the bulk of the minutes played.
Jet's small frame can be a defensive liability against bigger two-guard. Let's hope his "Bubba" Howard will get it together at the the two.
Erik Dampier is 34. I did the research on centers to know, there were a lot of them out there this summer. Just only a very few choice ones to pick from.
Yeah, losing Marcin Gortat was a heart-breaker, we'll just have to get over it. Drew Gooden just might be a better deal, if he stays motivated.
Mavericks are set on keeping Dampier as insurance, since he's a true center.
Ask yourselves this question: Would you buy that insurance policy?
All we have to show from Cuban's "Bubba" club is one appearance in the finals.
Did we spend too much and got too little in this summers trading?
For the last five summers we have seen Cuban do the same thing. Trade a few role-player and a couple of starters. And of course shakeup the bench.
The Mavericks keep saying they are looking for the "right" mix to compliment their core.
After five years of nothing Mavericks fans, maybe it's the core that needs to be shaken up.
