The junior was a driving force behind one of the best defenses in the country this year. Listed at 6'5", 249 pounds, McKinney often took over games for the Bulldogs and forced offenses to account for him at all times.

Thanks to his play, he earned plenty of attention from draft analysts throughout the season. Mel Kiper Jr. (subscription required) of ESPN offered his take on the linebacker:

"

He sees most of his snaps in the middle of the field, but you can put the 6-5, 250-pound McKinney in other spots and he'll succeed, and the Bulldogs' coaches have put him on the edge to take advantage of his supreme athleticism and decent pass-rushing skills. McKinney's versatility is driven by what a special athlete he is. He's going to run as fast as many running backs, and jump as high as some good wide receivers. But he's strong, too, and takes on blocks and won't be pushed backward by ball carriers.

"

Kiper also had McKinney slated for a first-round selection, where most believe he will go. Matt Miller of Bleacher Report noted where he believed he fit in against other inside linebackers:

His versatility and ability to span the field has made him a special talent, but his toughness has drawn comparisons to former great linebackers. One AFC scout voiced his thoughts on McKinney, per College Football 24/7:

If McKinney does get drafted in the first round, he would become the first from Mississippi State since Fletcher Cox in 2012. He's polished enough that he will be able to help a team right away in his first year.

After playing in the SEC for three years, McKinney is a battle-tested player with immense talent. With a bright future ahead of him in the NFL, it will be interesting to watch how the next several months unfold for the dynamic player.
