WWE's Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of December 29

Ryan DilbertJan 2, 2015

It's fitting that as 2014 closed, so much of the best WWE social media served as a nod to the future of the company.

Edge gave a resounding endorsement on Twitter. WWE's YouTube videos featured Sami Zayn and other emerging stars. Instagram showcased a man who is destined to shape WWE in 2015—Rusev.

Other shareable WWE-related content included Randy Orton making his way back to action, Brock Lesnar selling hamburgers and The Rock bringing down Rusev and Lana with some choice insults.

That pair of Russian instigators looked just as angry after colliding with Ryback on SmackDown as they did when The Brahma Bull returned in October. WWE shared a striking photo of Lana and Rusev stewing backstage:

Orton, meanwhile, was in a far better mood. Shooting The Condemned 2: Desert Prey has allowed him to recharge, taking a hiatus from taking bumps.

He then got a chance to do what he does best in an arena rich with wrestling history. On Instagram, WWE posted a shot of him en route to the ring at Madison Square Garden:

The Viper, though, didn't follow that up with an appearance on Raw or Main Event. Fans had to settle for superimposed versions of the former world champion.

An opportunity for another great "RKO outta nowhere" video emerged during the Oregon Ducks' dressing down of the Florida State Seminoles at the Rose Bowl. Quarterback Jameis Winston fell and fumbled as he attempted to convert a 4th-and-5.

It didn't take long before the Internet took hold of the moment and inserted Orton's trademark move.

When he wasn't starring in Vine and YouTube clips, Orton put together an impressive year in the ring. WWE staff compiled a list of the 25 best matches of the year; four of Orton's bouts made the cut, including both the No. 7 and No. 5 matches.

WWE put together an enticing taste of all those matches on YouTube. Seeing Sting's debut and Daniel Bryan's WrestleMania triumph again makes one want to load up all those bouts on the WWE Network.

Zayn made an impact on that list as well. The NXT champ competed in three of the top 10.

It appears Edge has seen a few of those contests and liked what he saw. He showed up to Monday's Raw decked out in a Zayn T-shirt.

Zayn certainly noticed. He tweeted the following:

Kevin Owens had an explanation for why Edge supported Zayn via T-shirt and not him. He wrote a funny tweet addressing Edge's fashion choice:

The Rated-R Superstar wasn't done giving props to up-and-comers, though. After Monday's Raw, Edge tweeted Seth Rollins a message that served as a virtual hat tip:

Zayn is right. Edge does have good taste.

Rollins is set for a huge year after being one of 2014's breakout stars. After turning on The Shield, his stock rose, becoming the company's top heel.

WWE featured a quote Mr. Money in the Bank heard in every arena he went—"You sold out!"—in its latest countdown video. Chris Jericho, Paul Heyman and The Rock joined Rollins in a compilation of the best quotes of 2014:

It's no surprise Heyman was on that list. The future Hall of Famer delivered a succession of memorable lines while representing Lesnar. He sold the idea of a part-time champion better than anyone else could.

In a new ad for Hardee's, it was The Beast Incarnate who did the selling. Well, sort of.

The burger company used old footage of Lesnar trashing Triple H's office.

Say what you want about the powerhouse, he's certainly a savvy businessman. He has spent much of his WWE title reign not wrestling and will get a nice payday from this commercial despite not having to shoot anything new.
