Khedira Suffers Hamstring Injury vs. Atletico
Saturday, Feb. 7
Khedira's bid to earn himself a top contract ahead of the summer of 2015 hit a sudden speed bump, as the Germany international suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Atletico Madrid, as confirmed by AS:
The 2014 World Cup winner has hardly featured for Los Blancos during this campaign, relegated to the sidelines due to a series of unfortunate injuries and the strong play of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
The 27-year-old's contract is set to expire in the summer, and while Real Madrid remain adamant they wish to re-sign the midfielder, AS English's Nicholas Rigg doesn't think it's likely:
Khedira needed to grasp every opportunity to prove himself ahead of the summer, earning either a new high-priced deal with Los Blancos or a move to another club willing to spend big on one of the world's most uniquely gifted midfielders.
The German combines athleticism and strong technique with world-class vision, but questions regarding his health will follow him wherever he goes. As reported by Transfermarkt.com, Khedira hasn't gone through a single season without injury concerns since 2008.
The timing of this injury couldn't have been much worse, and given Khedira's long injury history, you have to wonder how this latest setback will affect how potential suitors view him heading toward the end of the season.
