Top 10 Best-Dressed Tennis Players of 2014

Merlisa Lawrence CorbettDec 18, 2014

The best players on the ATP and WTA Tours get the biggest clothing deals. Their outfits are customized for their world-class bodies and then marketed to mere mortals.

Even with designers and the backing of sports apparel companies, some players still miss the mark.

Tomas Berdych drew mixed reviews when he debuted his H&M floral kit at the French Open. He also misfired at the Australian Open with loud bold stripes. Berdych finally got it right at the U.S. Open, with a geometric winner.

Although Berdych gets kudos for taking risks, he won't be rewarded with a place on this list. The players on this list consistently hit fashion home runs. They separate themselves from the pack.

They avoid fashion faux pas without becoming predictably bland like Maria Sharapova. The statuesque Sharapova took too few chances. Despite being one of the biggest stars in tennis, Sharapova wore mostly underwhelming outfits. With the exception of her Australian Open ensemble, Sharapova's clothing choices just blended in with everyone else.

That's everyone but the folks on this list. They stood out in style. These are the 10 best-dressed players of 2014.

No. 10 Nick Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios has to be the coolest-looking dude on the tour. Combine his on-court charisma with his swagger and you've got a player who could connect with the style-conscious urban youth. He wears color combinations as vibrant as his personality.

Kyrgios looked his best at home at the Australian Open. Although several players wore the Nike two-toned green-blue combo, Kyrgios wore it best.

No. 9 Ana Ivanovic

All of Ana Ivanovic's Adidas outfits looked beautiful on the 6'0" Serbian. However, the stunning little black dress she wore to the U.S. Open was a show-stopper.

Remove the wrist bands and the visor, slap on some heels and you could wear that dress out for a night on the town.

No. 8 Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki's lovely Australian Open dress, designed by Stella McCartney, was lavish and elegant. The similarly designed Wimbledon dress was equally as lovely.

However, she wore her best outfit at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Perhaps too casual for a Grand Slam, the playful outfit was the cutest thing on the courts this year. Comfy, cute and casual, this outfit could be worn out for a jog, a trip to the store or even as pajamas.

No. 7 Simone Bolelli

Simone Bolelli is perhaps the least-known player on this list. Yet, the Italian drew rave reviews for his U.S. Open outfit.

He rocked the Hydrogen skull logo all year. He wore bold yellow and black at the French Open; however, his U.S. Open top received attention because it appeared to promote the red, white and blue.

No. 6 Agnieszka Radwanska

Agnieszka Radwanska's 2014 Lotto-designed dresses personify flirty femininity. She dazzled in a black polka-dot number at the U.S. Open; however, her best look was the floral print Maddy dress at the French Open. Spring was in bloom every time she took the court.

No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has a knack for striking the perfect balance between sporty and classy. Tsonga was recently featured on the pages of the French GQ magazine. The dude looked like model material in his splendid Adidas royal blue and orange French Open kit.

No. 4 Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic seems to have found his form. He's back at No. 1, he's a married man and a father. He's also a fashion front-runner. His Uniqlo outfits make tennis wear look formal.

His best look was the night outfit for the Australian Open. The red trim on his black and gray outfit coordinated beautifully with his shoes, socks and wrist bands. What looks like a random print on the shirt is actually lines designed to be reminiscent of the seams on tennis balls.

Sneaky: just like the Djoker.

No. 3 Serena Williams

When artists draw female superheroes, they often include a muscular build with an hour-glass figure. Perhaps that's why Serena Williams looks so super in her outfits.

There's something so "Wonder Womanish" about her Wimbledon dress. It's the white version of this year's French Open outfit. Both are similar to her 2013 U.S. Open dress.

Befitting her warrior-princess persona, Williams knows how to walk the line between daring and darling. Who else but Serena could rock a cheetah print while winning their 18th Grand Slam?

No. 2 Venus Williams

In year's past, Venus Williams' EleVen line produced some serious fashion disasters. Remember that Moulin Rouge mess at the 2010 French Open?

This year, the EleVen line produced several smashing collections. There was the multicolored Aurora print at the Australian Open and the sleek Herringbone designs for the U.S. Open.

The best look was the elegant dress Williams wore at Wimbledon. Named favorite dress of the year by WTA fans, this outfit looked exquisite on vintage Venus.

No. 1 Roger Federer

Roger Federer may be the best-dressed tennis player of all time. Consistently stylish, Federer rarely makes a fashion misstep.

Well tailored from head-to-toe, Federer even managed to have folks make a fuss over his shoes at the U.S. Open. Nike introduced a limited edition Air Jordan tennis shoe for Federer. His Airness, Michael Jordan, came out to watch Federer.

Federer looked breezy cool in his Australian Open deep aqua polo and the French Open grey and red, but his best look was the black nighttime ensemble at the U.S. Open.
