Newton Poised for Week 16 Return

Sunday, Dec. 14

Somehow, despite a 4-8-1 record the Carolina Panthers are still in the playoff hunt, trailing the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons by just half a game in the NFC South. That makes the news that Cam Newton could be back in Week 16 after his recent car accident all the more exciting for the team.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com had the report on Newton's potential return to action on Sunday morning:

On Thursday, Newton commented on the crash, per Michael Morris of CNSNews.com, "You know, I just can’t stop smiling because it’s like, God’s got His hands on me man. I’m on somebody’s fantasy league you know. And I think it’s The Man upstairs."

Newton hasn't had his best season, but he's still Carolina's best chance to reach the postseason, accounting for 2,812 passing yards, 425 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns. The fact that Newton could be returning to action after just one game after being involved in such a serious accident is fairly remarkable, and a huge relief for the Panthers at that.
