Michael Sam Clarifies Comments About NFL Status Made to TMZ
Michael Sam has taken to Twitter to clear up comments that appeared on TMZ regarding his current status with the National Football League.
Per a video appearing on TMZ Sports, Sam was asked if he thinks NFL teams are not signing him because of his sexual orientation. He said, "I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year ... so I don't think it had to do with talent."
After the video was released, Sam provided more depth to the TMZ comments on his personal Twitter account:

It should be noted that in the video Sam never explicitly said he's not on an NFL team because of his sexual orientation.
The person in the video asks Sam if he felt "[his] coming out affected [his] ability to play on teams" or "if it was just the level of talent [he] went up against after college."
That's when Sam gave his comment about talent.
Sam, 24, was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft. After the team released him prior to the regular season, he spent time on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad but was waived in October.
Sam is currently a free agent.
