Lauren Hill Enters Hospice Care Due to Brain Tumor
Lauren Hill, whose story of inspiration has made national headlines as she's managed to play in college basketball games despite an ongoing battle with an inoperable brain tumor, was entered into Hospice care by her family on Monday.
A post on the Lauren's Fight for Cure Facebook page notes she was originally expected to start receiving the additional care in late October or early November. Those plans were temporarily put on hold as she worked to make her first college basketball appearance for Mount St. Joseph.
The message also states she is dealing with continued issues involved with the treatment, including an increase in headaches and problems sleeping. The family is happy to receive the additional resources and said Hill is maintaining positive spirits:
"We are excited to have additional resources coming to our home. We have already been able to get supplies to help make things easier here at home. […]
Overall she has been in good spirits this week and staying busy with special projects. In a funny, goofy mood tonight.
"
Hill burst into the spotlight in early November as she completed her quest to play in a college game. She scored four points in a contest against Hiram College that was moved up two weeks with the blessing of the NCAA to ensure she would be able to play.
It wasn't clear whether she would ever step back on the court until a couple weeks ago. That's when Hill returned to action once again, scoring a bucket against Bethany College.
Even if she doesn't step back on the floor, she's made quite an impression by reaching her goals despite extreme adversity along the way.
