Sting, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and More in the Scorpion Death Mailbag

Alfred KonuwaNov 26, 2014

Today's WWE mailbag is the first of the "Sting finally debuted in the WWE" era. Take one guess as to what most of the tweeted mailbag questions were about.

"

Am I wrong in saying that if Punk came back to the #WWE at Wrestlemania it would be as big as Sting at Survivor Series? @ThisIsNasty

— Chubby Alonso (@MSMasoet) November 25, 2014

"

Yes. There's simply no return or debut left in professional wrestling that would be bigger than Sting's arrival. He's the last relevant megastar to set foot in WWE. CM Punk's return would have been newsworthy. This is history.

The novelty of the return was maintained as Sting didn't appear on Raw and thankfully does not seem to be gearing up for a general manager role. True to his mysterious, vigilante character, he has disappeared back into the shadows.

If done correctly, his next appearance will be just as big of a deal as his first.

With WWE advertising its pay-per-views on WWE Network as must-see, this is one of the few scenarios that can have a noticeable impact on a sagging subscription count. Problem is, WWE will need to continue to outdo itself in order to retain subscribers who can now cancel at any time.

WWE has basically forced itself to deliver the best product possible at the risk of cancelled subscriptions, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

"

@ThisIsNasty who would you have face sting at WM? HHH or Undertaker?

— WrestlingLad (@WrestlingLadd) November 24, 2014"

Without question, Triple H would be a better opponent for Sting. WWE has already planted that seed.

Sting vs. The Undertaker would be an abject, legacy-killing trainwreck with both men at the end of their careers and in need of a strong lead dog for a serviceable match.

Triple H is the Derek Jeter of WWE. Although a living legend, he's not considered the greatest of all time in any particular category. He's a very good talker, a very good wrestler, a very good draw, etc.

The one area where he has a legitimate argument as the greatest ever is as a ring general. He can tell a story and get the best match out of a wide array of talents.

If there's any wrestler who could get the best WWE match Sting could ever give, it's Triple H. The way Triple H bumped for Sting at Survivor Series was already evidence of that. If WWE wants to honor Sting's legacy with a great match at WrestleMania, Triple H must play a significant role.

"

@ThisIsNasty reported that @RandyOrton won't be on #raw until after xmas does this free up @WWERollins for a feud w @HEELZiggler at TLC?

— Tance (@TanceJr) November 25, 2014"

It's more likely we get a Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns feud moving forward. During Reigns' last update via satellite, he made it seem like he'll be back this time next month, which should be just in time for WWE TLC.

Reigns has spent weeks calling out Rollins, so a feud is inevitable. Either Reigns will have his return match against his former Shield brethren at WWE TLC, or he'll interfere should Rollins have a match with somebody else (i.e. Dolph Ziggler.)

With no Authority to pal around with, Seth Rollins doesn't have as much purpose.

WWE needs to take extra care with Rollins so that he remains relevant. Nobody is expecting him to cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase anytime soon, and if the J&J Security angle continues, it will make it difficult to take him seriously.

Good matches with a surging Ziggler before transitioning to Reigns are exactly what Rollins needs.
