Latavius Murray, Darren McFadden's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 11

Timothy RappNov 20, 2014

Can you say changing of the guard?

Latavius Murray can. With two first-half touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night—including an explosive 90-yard run—Murray more than likely thrust himself to the top of Oakland's depth chart in the backfield. While he had to leave the game and didn't return, he certainly made his mark.

Compared to the plodding Maurice Jones-Drew and the injury-prone and inconsistent Darren McFadden, Murray was a breath of fresh air. A physical specimen at 6'3" and 225 pounds with excellent speed in the open field, Murray deserves at least a chance to be the team's top option in the running game for the rest of the season.

Around the NFL offered some insight into what Murray brings as opposed to McFadden:

The Raiders came into Thursday night without a win, after all. They aren't competing for anything except for pride at this point and should see exactly what they have in the second-year player. And that means Murray is a player you should definitely consider rostering this week.

As for McFadden, he's probably worth keeping on your roster if, for some strange reason, the Raiders continue to trot him out as the starter. If you find yourself in a position where you need to start McFadden on a weekly basis, however, you're probably in trouble at running back. He's nothing more than a low-end RB3 and, with Murray's possible ascension, an RB4.

There should be a changing of the guard in Oakland at running back. Murray deserves the chance to prove that his breakout performance on Thursday night wasn't a fluke.

Hit me up on Twitter—I'll answer your fantasy questions and make some corny jokes, too. It's more fun than being Aaron Rodgers right now. OK, not quite. Fine, it's not like that at all. Jeez.
