Tim Wiese, Solomon Crowe and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
A showdown with Stardust may be the precursor to Tim Wiese's WWE NXT career, while Solomon Crowe can't seem to get his rolling.
Wiese played a part in a recent WWE house show in Germany. A run-in with the tag team champs served as the bulked-up footballer's debut. As for Crowe, he's reportedly trying out a new gimmick, still in search of the right fit.
In other WWE developmental news, William Regal says he's looking for prospects in South America, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch have a new nickname and NXT hit a social media milestone.
We begin with Wiese, who has transformed into a Mason Ryan lookalike since leaving the pitch.
Former German Goalkeeper Makes WWE Debut
1 of 5Tim Wiese, once a goalkeeper in Germany's Bundesliga, took his first steps toward becoming a WWE Superstar.
Last month, Wiese told German tabloid Bild (h/t Metro) that WWE had offered him a contract. It was hard to know what to make of the claim. WWE hadn't said anything on its end; perhaps Wiese was just blowing hot air.
Then he showed up to a house show in Frankfurt over the weekend with a new frame, the kind one might see on a comic book superhero.
As the Independent notes, the German WWE Twitter account said that he was serving as a guest timekeeper for a match between The Usos and Goldust and Stardust. Eventually, as the video above shows, he got involved in the action.
There has been no word about what's next for him. It's certainly looks now WWE's interest in him is real.
That interest is no guarantee of anything, though. WWE stardom is now a journey that goes through the Performance Center and NXT. Wiese hasn't begun those phases yet.
William Regal Scouting New Talent
2 of 5If you're the next great wrestling star and Brazilian, William Regal wants a word with you.
NXT's general manager is apparently on the lookout for new talent in a country far more famous for its goalscoring than its wrestling.
Regal tweeted on Monday that he was scouting in Brazil.
This wasn't his first trip there. Back in April, PWInsider's Dave Scherer reported that Regal went to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in search of potential NXT prospects.
NXT continues to get more international, so this isn't surprising. There has to be a better Brazilian grappler than Giant Silva, right?
Solomon Crowe Reportedly Working New Gimmick
3 of 5WWE doesn't seem sure of what to do with Solomon Crowe. The indy standout has yet to debut on TV and has briefly tried a hacker gimmick on for size.
A change appears to be in the works. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t PW Mania) Crowe has been doing a gimmick that involves tapping his head with a microphone.
Maybe that's something that works really well once you see it and just sounds bad. More likely, though, Crowe is being handed something silly that won't help him move up at NXT.
Officials found the right packaging for Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin, who have since made a big impression on NXT TV. Here's hoping they find a fit for Crowe.
He's too talented a performer to be saddled with cheap gimmicks.
Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch Referring to Themselves by New Nickname
4 of 5Gone are the BFFs; Best at Everything (B.A.E.) is here instead.
Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch have been working side-by-side of late and now have a name for their duo.
Banks referred to her and Lynch as "Team B. A. E." on Twitter. Lynch did the same.
It's not The Four Horsemen, but it's miles better than Xavier Woods trying to call his faction Smart Athletic Friends.
NXT Hits Milestone
5 of 5NXT's popularity is growing, as shown in a recent bump in attendance at live shows, per the Wrestling Observer (h/t Wrestle Zone).
The show's social media presence is also growing. NXT just surpassed 2 million likes on its Facebook page.
Sure, Lionel Messi might laugh at those numbers, but it's mighty impressive compared to other wrestling groups. Impact Wrestling has just over 1 million Facebook likes. Ring of Honor has less than 400,000.
