Roy Halladay, Adrian Gonzalez, or Victor Martinez: Who Will the Red Sox Acquire?
With the MLB trade deadline on the horizon, the Boston Red Sox are closely pursuing three major players. The question is...who will they end up trading for: Roy Halladay, Adrian Gonzalez, or Victor Martinez?
The Red Sox continue to discuss trade packages for all three players, and in my opinion the team needs to land one of these All-Stars in order to have a shot at a World Series title.
When it comes to Halladay, you clearly are getting one of the best starting pitchers in the league. Halladay would join forces with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester to form a dynamic trio that would be devastating to opposing teams come playoff time.

However, landing Halladay will be a difficult feat. J.P. Ricciardi wants a lot for his longtime ace, and the asking price may be a bit too high.
With that said, the Sox should carefully consider pulling the trigger and making this deal.
They have a chance at becoming a premier team with "Doc" in the rotation, and I believe teams who have a shot at winning now should play for the current and not the future.
Gonzalez is another option for Boston and is one that I also like a lot. He would be a perfect fit in the lineup and would instantly become a fan favorite at Fenway Park. His contract is also very favorable for any team who acquires his services.
Like Gonzalez, Martinez is another option for Boston. He would add some power to the lineup and is a great guy to have in the clubhouse. The Indians are clearly sellers at this point in the season, and if Boston decides he is the right player to go after, a deal definitely can get done.
A lot of people in Boston believe that some of their prospects will become stars. For the most part, some of them will. But Theo Epstein needs to take a chance and trade some young guys for an established winner.
With any one of these three players, the Red Sox will greatly increase their chances at bringing a title back to Boston.
