Ranking the Best Highlights for the Los Angeles Kings so Far in 2014-15

Eric McKelvieNov 11, 2014

The Los Angeles Kings play a style that doesn't always lead to the type of highlight-reel goals you might see from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning or even the Edmonton Oilers.

However, early this season, when they dominated offensively, That 70s Line produced a number of plays worth a second watch. The Kings also offer other entertaining moments outside of the offensive zone, whether it's a huge hit from a defenseman or an unbelievable save from Jonathan Quick.

Take a closer look and enjoy the best plays from the Kings' season so far.

Honorable Mention: McNabb's Monster Hit

1 of 6

Jay McClement had to be feeling a little sore after this hit.

Brayden McNabb stepped up and delivered a huge open-ice hit as the Carolina forward attempted to enter the L.A. zone. McNabb has brought this physicality in just about every game in his first season with the Kings. He has 38 hits and 13 blocked shots in 15 games.

At age 23, McNabb could be a big factor long term on the L.A. blue line. He may take on the role Robyn Regehr currently plays when the veteran hangs them up.

5. That 70s Line Shines

2 of 6

While most of the plays on this highlight list revolve around a great individual effort, this goal comes courtesy of some great passing.

While That 70s Line has cooled off as of late, this play shows the great chemistry they can have when cycling the puck down low. Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Carter work the puck behind the net and eventually set up Tanner Pearson with a great pass in the slot. He makes no mistake blasting a one-timer into the open cage.

The Kings would hang on to win the game 2-1 with the help of another highlight-reel play on this list.

4. Trevor Lewis Shorthanded

3 of 6

Most teams won't have a fourth-line player cracking their highlight reel with a goal like this.

Trevor Lewis makes a great effort on the forecheck to help force a turnover with the Dallas Stars on the man advantage. He then shows off his quick hands with a nice deke before sliding the puck by Kari Lehtonen.

Lewis delivers this type of effort in all three zones, and that's why Darryl Sutter trusts him to kill penalties. The goal tied the game, and the Kings would go on to win 3-1.

3. Jonathan Quick Saves the Game

4 of 6

Jonathan Quick is one of the world's best when it comes to going post to post and stretching out to make saves.

What makes this toe stop so impressive is it came with 30 seconds remaining in the third period of a game where the Kings led by just a goal, 2-1. It also came against one of the world's top players in Zach Parise.

All of that said, the Kings had a bit of a defensive lapse here and gave the Wild way too good of a chance to score. Luckily Quick bailed them out, as he has many times this season.

2. Tanner Pearson's Burst of Speed

5 of 6

That 70s Line member Tanner Pearson played a crucial role for the Kings late in the third against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With an incredible burst of speed, Pearson managed to get completely clear of defenseman James Wisniewski and snipe one in off the bar. Credit to Tyler Toffoli for flipping the puck to a spot where Pearson would have a chance to get to it.

This great display of hustle put the Kings up 4-2, and a few minutes later, Pearson notched another goal to seal the win.

1. Tyler Toffoli's Patient Play

6 of 6

Tyler Toffoli showed off his great hands, beautiful shot and remarkable patience on this play.

This spectacular individual effort saw Toffoli weave from the right side to the left before firing a quick shot to make it 3-0, Kings. On top of that, it was a shorthanded goal. Toffoli has three shorthanded makers on the season, no other player has more than one.

The Kings would go on to beat the Oilers 6-1, and Toffoli finished with a goal and an assist.
