
Rob Bironas Found to Be Intoxicated, Speeding During Fatal Car Crash
A final police report filed on the death of former Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas states he was speeding while intoxicated before the fatal crash that occurred on Sept. 21.
The Associated Press reports data analysis included in the filing shows Bironas was traveling at 73 mph when he lost control of his vehicle. An autopsy showed he died from blunt force injuries stemming from the resulting crash.
"The cause of the crash was Driver l's failure to maintain the proper lane and exceeding the posted speed limit," the report read. "This case is now closed."

Also noted in the report were multiple claims from other drivers detailing erratic driving and actions from the kicker. A toxicology report found his blood alcohol level was well over double the legal limit at the time.
Bironas went undrafted in 2001. He bounced around organizations for several years before finally finding a steady job with the Titans. He ended up spending seven seasons in the NFL, making 86 percent of his field-goal attempts. Tennessee released him in March after scoring more than 1,000 points.
He was 36.
