NFL TV Schedule 2014: Week 10 Coverage Map Listings for Every Game
There will be at least one contest in Week 10 that ultimately decides the playoff fate for an NFL team. That's a pretty scary concept, isn't it? Several matchups this week have postseason implications, and all it takes is one win to propel a team deep into January. That decisive win could happen for at least one franchise on Sunday.
The Miami Dolphins need a big win to stay in the race for the AFC East; however, a Detroit Lions team that sits atop the NFC North will be standing in their way. The San Francisco 49ers have fallen well behind the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West, and they need a victory against the surging New Orleans Saints to remain in contention.

Miami Dolphins at Detroit Lions

This is a crucial matchup for each team, as the Lions need a win to retain their cushion atop the NFC North, and the Dolphins are in need of a victory to remain in the AFC's playoff race. While this contest has interesting implications, it also has interesting matchups.
In a game that pits strength against strength, Miami's fourth-ranked rushing offense will take on Detroit's second-ranked rushing defense. Conversely, the Lions' ninth-ranked passing offense will face off against the Dolphins' second-ranked passing defense.
Which side will give way first?
Miami has received quite a surprise from third-year veteran running back Lamar Miller this season. The ball-carrier has been the team's workhorse, totaling 106 carries for 518 yards—an average of 4.9 yards per rush—and five touchdowns. One concern heading into Week 10 is the health of the ball-carrier, via Around the NFL:
If Miller isn't fully healthy, it could prove costly for the Dolphins against a Lions defense that has only allowed an average of 74.0 rushing yards per game this season.
On the flip side, Detroit will have its hands full against a very good Miami secondary that has only allowed an average of 201.1 passing yards this year. This unit blanked San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in Week 9, holding him to zero touchdowns while forcing three interceptions.
Although, there is one enormous piece of positive news for the Lions heading into Week 10, via SportsCenter:
With Calvin Johnson back in the fold for the Lions, it's difficult to bet against them. However, Miami's secondary has been extremely efficient, and the All-Pro receiver will need to shake off any rust very quickly.
San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints

Coincidentally, the 49ers and Saints are in roughly the same situation as the Dolphins and Lions. San Francisco has fallen to third place in the NFC West, and its playoff hopes are slowly slipping away. New Orleans has jumped to the top of the NFC South and suddenly look as dangerous as ever.
This contest is also a battle of strengths. San Francisco is known for a ground-and-pound style of offense and currently rank 11th in the league in rushing yards. New Orleans has been very good against the run, ranking 10th in the league in that department. The Saints have the third-ranked passing offense coming into Week 10, but they will face the 49ers' third-ranked passing defense.
It's quite difficult to determine which team actually has the upper hand.
The 49ers haven't actually been the most consistent team of late. The offensive game plan has circulated around the arm of Colin Kaepernick more so than the legs of Frank Gore. In Week 9 against the St. Louis Rams, San Francisco's offense passed 33 times and rushed just 21. That resulted in a loss to an inferior team.
Gore commented on the team's recent play, via the 49ers' official Twitter account:
If San Francisco learned its lesson from that debacle and begins running the ball more consistently and effectively, it will have a far better chance of emerging victorious in a tough road contest against the Saints.
The Saints have really been stepping it up lately after a disastrous start to the season. Drew Brees looks every bit like his old self, and that's resulted in two wins in as many weeks. During that span, Brees has passed for a total of 608 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He even added a rushing touchdown.
With tight end Jimmy Graham looking healthier by the week and rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks stepping up, this offense has become rather dynamic. Although, the Saints are in for one of the toughest tests they will face all season, as a very well-rounded 49ers defense comes to town.
Will Brees' magic in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome continue against this stout defense? The quarterback will need his best performance of the year to emerge victorious here.
