WWE Rumors: Examining Latest Buzz Around Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton and More

Ryan DilbertNov 4, 2014

Rey Mysterio may be on his way back to WWE TV, just as Randy Orton is set to step away from it.

Fans of the masked dynamo may finally get a resolution on his recent contract drama. Mysterio reportedly met with WWE officials at the site of Monday's Raw. That's where Orton suffered an attack from The Authority, one that may have him miss Survivor Series.

Other WWE rumors center around what went wrong with the WWE Network's launching in the United Kingdom and why some Superstars are concerned about their jobs.

Backstage Word on Rey Mysterio

Expect something to change in the stagnant Mysterio story.

He has been out of action for months, stuck in limbo. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Zone) reported back in June that WWE exercised a clause in Mysterio's contract to extend it without Mysterio needing to sign off on it. It was designed to make up for time he lost due to injury.

We have yet to see Mysterio in the ring, however. He hasn't competed since April.

The high-flyer may now either be working out a way to break this deal or figuring out when he will return to the ring. Mike Johnson reports for PWInsider that Mysterio flew into Buffalo, New York, on Monday to meet with WWE officials and then returned home to California on Tuesday.

Sources tell Johnson that "Mysterio and WWE have not been on the same page for some time after Mysterio's WWE contract extended."

F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc) adds that until their meeting on Monday, Vince McMahon had not spoken with Mysterio since he left.

Hopefully, WWE comes to a settlement of some sort with Mysterio and lets him walk. It's not worth it to push him into finishing out this contract. How much passion is he going to bring to the ring in a situation like this?

Besides, WWE can save itself some money by not paying a guy who isn't wrestling.

Reported Reason for WWE Network Delay

The WWE Network was set to launch in the U.K. on Monday. Just minutes before launch time, though, WWE tweeted that there would be another delay:

Apparently, WWE is dealing with unfinished business. According to F4WOnline (h/t PW Mania), ongoing negotiations with Sky TV led to the delay.

WWE's not having a deal finalized before announcing the launch has it looking foolish here. This marks the second delay for the U.K., one of the strongest, most passionate fanbases WWE has. It's going to be hard to win those folks over when WWE inevitably announces the network's launch for a third time.

Sky TV contends, though, that the issues don't lie with it.

The Sky help team took to Twitter to answer fans' questions. In response to one fan, it wrote, "This isn't a decision that we have made and instead it was made by the WWE."

It's hard to believe that Sky TV didn't play a role here, though. The company stands to lose a lot of money with its pay-per-view revenue sure to decrease with the Network around. It couldn't have helped negotiations that WWE is now giving Survivor Series away for free.

Backstage Worry Regarding Potential Future Releases

The WWE Network's not bringing in the kind of numbers the company was hoping for has some low-card Superstars worried.

WWE may need to cut its budget even more. That's bad news for nonessential talent. Those folks know it too.

According to PWInsider Elite (subscription required) (h/t Wrestling Inc), some of the wrestlers who haven't appeared on TV much as of late are concerned that WWE will release more of its roster soon.

Guys like Fandango, David Otunga, Zack Ryder and The Great Khali have good reason to feel that way.

WWE just lost $5.9 million this quarter. And when it's time to trim the fat, WWE isn't going to be looking to release John Cena.

Otunga isn't contributing anything as of late. He hasn't been in a WWE match, televised or otherwise, since WrestleMania, per CageMatch.net.

No Randy Orton at Survivor Series?

The Authority put a hit on The Viper on Monday's Raw. A Curb Stomp into the ring steps allows Orton to leave WWE programming to film The Condemned 2: Desert Prey

What's unclear, though, is whether that means Orton will be around for Survivor Series. He tweeted that he was pulled from the upcoming European to be in the movie:

"

Filming 'The Condemned 2' RT @Abyss84Jigsaw: @RandyOrton I was waiting to see you in Dublin, Ireland, but ... http://t.co/6oAmzUK8t1

— Randy Orton (@RandyOrton) October 31, 2014"

What of the pay-per-view that his hometown of St. Louis will be hosting? F4WOnline reports (h/t Wrestle Zone) Orton has been pulled from local Survivor Series advertisements.

F4WOnline also reports (h/t Wrestling Inc) that there is talk that there's a good chance Orton misses Survivor Series, although he could get a day off from shooting to work the event because the movie is a WWE Studios production.

It would be a huge missed opportunity not to have Orton, who is in the midst of a babyface turn, perform in St. Louis. It also lessens the star power of the Survivor Series match. Having Orton and John Cena team up is a volatile, intriguing situation that would better the bout.

Pulling him from ads makes it more likely that he shows up as a surprise. That would be perfectly in line with the current story of his injury and his uncontrollable rage for Seth Rollins.

Signs point to the predator pouncing unannounced.
