Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Sherrod was chosen 32nd overall in the 2011 NFL draft out of Mississippi State, but played just 20 games with the Packers and made one start this year before being waived.
TheBig1070-Madison radio host Mike Heller weighed in on Monday's transaction:
Josh Norris of Rotoworld noted how Sherrod was struggling earlier in the 2014 season:
Pass protection issues have plagued the Packers, but those have been masked by the brilliance of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The former Super Bowl MVP took a league-high 51 sacks in 2012, 20 in just nine games last year and has gone down 21 times in eight starts this season.
The hope was for Sherrod to help out in that regard, but such a development never materialized. As is evident in the analysis above, Sherrod underperformed when he was on the field and was also beset by injury.
General manager Ted Thompson has not used a first-rounder to address the offensive line since Sherrod, having chosen three defenders in as many recent drafts. Perhaps Thompson will reassess personnel priorities if Green Bay's play in the trenches doesn't improve.
Even though Sherrod didn't pan out with the Packers, there is still a chance that other teams seeking a viable offensive tackle will give him a look before the season ends. However, it doesn't help that Sherrod is leaving a place where blocking isn't a strong suit.
