San Francisco Giants Acquire Ryan Garko
Adam BernacchioJul 27, 2009
According to AOL Fanhouse, the San Francisco Giants have acquired first basemen Ryan Garko from the Cleveland Indians for minor-league prospect Scott Barnes.
The Giants were so desperate for offense, it seemed like they were scouting my softball games for hitters. In all seriousness, this move makes sense for the Giants. Garko was batting .285 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 78 games for the Indians this year.
In 2007, Garko hit 21 home runs and drove in 61 runs for the Indians. The Giants are hoping Garko can find his power stroke again. He will play first and should take over for Travis Ishikawa.
Barnes was rated as the Giants' ninth best prospect prior to the 2009 season by Baseball America.
